Just a thought, how about a visit to the old Blackwood stomping grounds during the European trip. Maybe there is some way to untangle Mel’s estrangement from her goddess. Or even an opportunity for a marking in the ancestral grove.

2025-08-16 14:34:05 +0000 UTCAs Gabriel said, draining all of a witch's mana gave him ALL of the mana they would ever have. Think of how Sam's wizard wizz potion took her from one practically size 0 resonant to three large resonants (after being split between with Noah). Now do that for each and every witch Gabriel drained. I assume his uncle's coven was among the independents, but a triple allure backed with that much mana would probably keep any witch caught by surprise or even many witches prepared for it from running. Do you keep your concentration on defending against the allure or magical attacks? Any lapse in both would be a death sentence. As for his other prey, I don't think it was strictly independents. It was mentioned that witches had been going missing since perhaps book 1, but no one knew why. I believe that was a foreshadowing of Gabriel more than the Patriarchy. If he was ever caught by someone other than Noah's mother, he made sure to clean them up as well.

2025-08-10 18:31:59 +0000 UTCSo I'm guessing saving the Fielding sisters will have to wait for the next book. Fair enough, though it does make me wonder, how on earth did Gabriel manage to out gun an entire coven? Did no one survive to give the alarm, or was he preying exclusively on independents?

2025-08-06 13:12:48 +0000 UTCIn the battle scene between the Cait Fae and Felicity, once Fíorghráin realized the geas was backfiring on him, he shouted “I withdraw the geas! ... I release you from —” The first half of that was probably enough to cancel the geas, though according to Felicity, the geas had begun to unravel when she realized that it was Fíorghráin who was the real threat to Morgan. Not that I think Felicity would object to having a geas to protect Morgan. She already believes she has a duty.

2025-08-03 22:29:40 +0000 UTCDuring the scene with Priscilla in the Sauna we are told that Cassian is from the Rhodope Mountains, which is on the Bulgaria side of the border with Greece. Assuming that is the case I can't help wondering if Magistra Cassian made the suggestion because she thinks the witch would be a good match for the Coven, or because of how well known that Sam likes 'boobs'. Could be a source of conflict with Rachel if that witch also likes girls.

2025-08-02 18:48:21 +0000 UTCWell, we did get to see Sam fight him, and the critical blow ( knee) too!

2025-07-31 14:09:50 +0000 UTCHaving just reread book one and two, in preparation for book three, I came across the scene where Noah asks Magistra Cassian for help on his special report for Magistra Hawke's class. Magistra Cassian hands Sam a photo stick of her cousin, with nice mountains, back in the old country. And now, Sam is arranging a trip to Bulgaria to interview a witch. What are the odds that they are one and the same?

2025-07-28 04:02:48 +0000 UTCI'm wondering if Baba Yaga was another First Witch like Mel. Also the relative power between the two of them was a guess based on how long Sam had heard rumours of each of them. I would guess that the Family Fíorghráin stole Morgan from would be as far away as possible from the orphan system he hid her in. Assuming that the city Mel lives in is on the East Coast of America (okay is New York), maybe the West coast, maybe Europe. And guess where they're going to be spending part of their summer - Bulgaria. So it just might be that she was taken from a family that had Baba Yaga as its originator and the next books climax arc is based on this.
Silent Monk
2025-07-27 08:50:14 +0000 UTCMy guess for Morgan’s lineage is she descendant of the baba Yaga. She was mentioned early on in the first book as the only witch to rival or surpass Mel and if she has that much power I would bet she is still alive. I get the feeling that none of the current council families introduced so far have bloodlines that would meet the fae’s expectations of powerful enough to contain his goddess besides the Blackwood and we know it’s not her.

2025-07-27 06:40:01 +0000 UTCTriple Allure, and the Morrigan attempt is important to the entire magical community even if only to let them know to keep an eye out for future attempts. Also, with how much the witch families throw a fit about Noah "stealing" one of their girls each time, imagine how much they will go after a different magical race for doing the same. The Gabriel situation is a mess. He did not seem to be part of the (council) Families, so dealing with him will probably end up being a bridge into the independents and ferals. No sense in them not being warned as well.
rendterna
2025-07-26 15:51:24 +0000 UTCIt's unclear if sound is included in Hindsight. I believe it is not, and I base that more on the conversation in the patriarchy's basement the magic net not absorbing sound than I am on sound never being included in previous uses of Hindsight. How well they can determine what spell was used based on the mana revealed is another matter. It being blocked without taking effect and Noah being a warlock, thus having his mana stripped of its affinity, are hopefully in Noah's favor. All they would know is some kind of magic was cast that targeted Gabriel but failed to do anything.
rendterna
2025-07-26 15:43:29 +0000 UTCI can't see any reason why the council, once informed of what happened, wouldn't send an investigation team to check with hindsight and confirm the story. Which would require that they could hear the conversation / monologue from the past. Including Gabriel realising that Command was attempted to be used on him.
Silent Monk
2025-07-26 14:11:31 +0000 UTCMaybe its just me but it seems that the existence of a sympsychophonos with double (triple?) Allure would be pretty damn important to know by ALL the witches (council, independents, outcasts). The plot to bring back the Morrigan much less so since it was thwarted and the instigator killed. Noah already feels guilty about Katrina. If / when Gabriel strikes again he truly will have to bear some of the responsibility for not warning everyone.
Silent Monk
2025-07-26 14:11:07 +0000 UTCI guess that the first thing that has to happen is that they answer the phone. The second is whether you'd want to make such a deal with the Fieldings. I sure wouldn't make it with the Prescotts.
Silent Monk
2025-07-26 13:48:39 +0000 UTCThere is a comment about Lammastide when going over the demand for payment from the Winthorps, so I'm guessing that the invitation is actually from the Winthorps, or maybe the Hearsts. I can't see anyway it would be from the Prescotts, but I suppose there is a small chance its from the Blakes if Cassandra's Mom tries to rebuild bridges.

2025-07-24 04:28:32 +0000 UTCIt might also apply to the rules of being Morrigan. The fey are all about rules and crap, if she NEEDS the body to be empty, the fact that her one friend, didn't abandon her, isn't dead, and was actively by her side fighting to free her. Should have kept her safe. (At least if my thoughts on the fey and rules is right.). I would have much rather that the MC marked her, but so many authors seem stuck with the idea of 1 girl per book (Like relations and situationships are so neat and organized. /rolls eyes

2025-07-23 13:31:00 +0000 UTCI think that the final part is ok but does not add up to being great. Magic is based on will and Morrigan would have had a much stronger will to get Morgan. I really dont think that a quick, your in my coven, is enough, wouldn't a marking need to really solidify that. I think it could have been more of a challenge to Morrigan fighting off a marking than just some words.

2025-07-23 10:16:27 +0000 UTCGreat finish to the book. I really wanted to see the girls fight Z-Gabriel instead of being told about it. Would’ve been cool and a bit more climactic, but as I’m sure we’ll see him again, it’s prob fine.

2025-07-22 13:25:57 +0000 UTCWhile I agree with the first part, I can't agree that it is anyway at all related to Rachel. It was stated last book that the Archimagira could not officially endorse the union and would have to appear quite cross in order to protect them from her enemies even to the point of making her enemies look upon the Blackwoods favorably. The recompense for Rachel was also said to treat the Blackwood Family as equals and is more of a "let's pretend to be upset" agreement while offering to break their traditions to accommodate Noah's coven. Noah's kids are going to need to find witches in other Families to form their own covens, and the Archimagira commented on how Noah's approach both appeals to modern sensibilities and follows the old ways. Considering how Mel said she loved skulduggery and manipulation, this is probably her way of steering at least her Family away from the entrenched Family structure she has stated her distaste for and towards one better for the newer generations. From what we could see with Rachel's mother, her grandmother is probably not of the majority opinion. The agreement with the Blackwoods will likely help to change that as the other witches get to see and experience a different path.
rendterna
2025-07-22 12:56:44 +0000 UTCBetween Noah at Rachel's marking, and Noah at Cassandra's graduation ritual, we see huge growth in Noah as a warlock. At the binding, he shows up with no idea what he's expected to do except bind Rachel. For Cassandra's plea, he owned the whole thing: he consulted the experts (Mel and Magistra Cassian), he wrote the plea, he organized the ritual, and he conducted it himself. He owned the whole thing, even to the point of accepting that even if Cassandra ridiculed him for the whole thing, it was worth it to help her. Bit by bit, he's becoming a real warlock. Plenty of reason for Mel to be proud of him.

2025-07-22 00:36:34 +0000 UTCIt shows how corrupted the witch families have become that they order their daughters to attempt to mark the feral Warlock for their family and then claim that the daughter was stolen when the marking does not have the expected outcome. There is nothing in the story about Rachael's mother giving her that order. Perhaps the recompense can be worked into an agreement that works for both families.

2025-07-21 15:53:23 +0000 UTCGabriel also went after his uncle’s coven, admitted to killing Noah’s mother, “her warlock, and, like, six of her sisters.” He also admitted that he killed any witch he bonded with, and that Noah’s mom had seen Gabriel with a witch who had disappeared and had raised the alarm. Gabriel may have also killed his own mother as well: “Let’s just say she said some things she came to regret.”

2025-07-21 11:42:23 +0000 UTCSorta did back on the prologue. Felicity smelled 2, first one was blood and iron and the second one is cedar and oak. I'm guessing the first is war or something related to it while the second is something related to insight or prophecy. Just guesses though. 2025-07-21 07:11:15 +0000 UTCIt seems to be the formula in all the books of the series. They are 90% slice of life then the last 10% is the conflict that has been simmering under the surface the whole time.

2025-07-21 03:26:26 +0000 UTCGreat ending. I think you mentioned it earlier, but your last section of the book transitioned really quickly. It might just be me, but I think you may want to leave more clues that lead up to the events that happened at the end or create a more solid buildup. You kinda did the same thing in book 2, and I'd argue that it's not a pattern you want repeating in your next several books.

2025-07-21 03:17:16 +0000 UTCI don't specifically remember details regarding when Morgan's graduation was, but it was said that Noah's birthday was only a few days after Willowmere's. And Morgan's "official" birthday is the day after Noah's. It could very well be that Morgan had school for a week longer than Noah, I am not sure on specifics regarding her mundane life.
rendterna
2025-07-21 02:53:28 +0000 UTCThe same way Noah was classified as a Lost One and made a Family Head: technicalities. He was supposedly dead, and thus the plans she was not allowed to interfere with had already ceased to be. Turns out he's not really dead, but those plans had already gone up in smoke, so his not-death is not really relevant anymore.
rendterna
2025-07-21 02:47:45 +0000 UTCIf he didnt really die how could Mel help them??? Well that didn't get my stress and blood pressure to sky rocket. Even knowing it was going to happen. I'm both happy and sad its not over. Both deaths would have been to easy to happen at once. The D&D game was a nice way to ease the book into a semblance ofnormality. Now Gabriel has a fae and the Blackwood after him.

2025-07-21 02:26:12 +0000 UTCWasn't there a lot of foreshadowing that something was going to happen to Morgan close to her birthday? I think it started when they were followed in book 2. It was even said that Gabriel acting less creepy was itself suspicious, as if he was luring them into lowering their guards. Gabriel being obsessed with harming Noah, or even that they might be related? I don't think that was ever hinted at. Hopefully someone corrects me if I'm wrong.
rendterna
2025-07-21 02:25:59 +0000 UTCWell, Rachel was in line to be the second to join the coven... But yes, she is in for quite an adventure. Between finding out that, yes, some warlocks DO still have Command, and dealing with injured kumpani and kidnapped witches is just another day that ends in 'y' for this coven. Does eloping count as kidnapping a witch, because we have an unbroken streak of 4:4 kidnappings to school vacations if we do. I'm counting Sam as eloping since she purposefully gave herself to Noah to escape instead of following her Family's demands. Either way, Sororix Prescott certainly considered her unlawfully taken away.

2025-07-21 02:16:34 +0000 UTCGreat 3rd book, can't wait to start reading the 4th. I'm wondering if he's going to bind Morgan and Priscilla in the next book. Because its been one girl a book so far, and in my opinion you could bind Priscilla in the beginning of the book and Morgan near the end. Of course if Morgan has been waiting 3 or more years for Noah, she may not want to wait any longer to be with him.
Michael Chaney
2025-07-21 02:13:24 +0000 UTCGreat chapters. One question: I thought there was a couple weeks between Morgan graduating and turning 18, but she was at school when kidnapped, then turned 18 just a day or two later, possibly while school was still in session?

2025-07-21 02:03:43 +0000 UTCGabriel's maternal uncle is Noah's father. Noah's paternal aunt is Gabriel's mother. I think. I somehow got twisted around during Gabriel's convoluted rant about who he did and didn't kill that I was wondering why Gabriel was calling his half-brother his cousin until I went back and reread that part a few times. Edit: Noah's paternal aunt. Still messing it up...
rendterna
2025-07-21 01:54:39 +0000 UTCI think she was limited to the area around the altar, but it was said she needed someone without kin. Gabriel knows his aunt and cousin still live. rendterna
2025-07-21 01:49:49 +0000 UTCHey, at least we get to see the conclusion of what Noah told Morgan the night she found out she was a witch. "If Gabriel hurt you, I'd do worse." Hannah already told him about a were rescue he can feed that monster to to further desecrate his corpse, and that sounds like it goes right up there with what the Maiden asked him to do. The big question I'm wondering now is this: Do weres like to eat live or dead prey more? It probably depends on if weres are only based on wolves or if they can be any animal. The fae was torn apart with pieces of him literally all over the place. How much worse will Gabriel's death be? Edit: Fixed "If Gabriel hurt you" quote...
rendterna
2025-07-21 01:44:33 +0000 UTCWe’re gonna need a separate genealogical chart to sort out who is related to whom. So Noah’s maternal uncle is Gabriel’s father? They’re first cousins? Unless the whole thing was bs.

2025-07-21 01:37:20 +0000 UTCI don't think Morgan counts as a founder's legacy unless they find her parents before the next school year, so adding her to the coven probably won't give her enrollment to the school. It will let her stay at the cottage, and at least two of the possible initiatae they want to visit over the summer can help Cassandra tutor her on witch studies. Probably. I'm guessing Magistra Cassian's cousin has already graduated, but who knows what the age gap is with witches. Could be 2-3 years or it could be 200-300.

2025-07-21 01:04:13 +0000 UTCLove the ending, I wanted more girls bound in the book but I also wanted Cassandra’s issues resolved before he added to the coven and that took the majority of the book so I’m okay with it. Can’t wait for the release and the start of book 4! Hoping for some more POV’s I want to see more from Priscilla’s perspective maybe when she learns from her mom she is going to be in Noah’s coven.
Bollywash
2025-07-21 01:02:54 +0000 UTCWell, the number of dates future initiatae get is based on the number Priscilla gets, so she probably gets a few more dates but no one else gets bound before her. If I'm remembering correctly, she only got two this book. That does not sound like enough for us to see future initiatae before they fully join the coven, but I doubt it takes longer than next book for her to get bound. With next book starting with summer break, there will be plenty of time for dates if you ignore all the witch shit that Noah will inevitably be drawn into. Will that witch shit involve someone else being bound before Priscilla? You know what? I won't argue against that... Things have a tendency of happening to Noah and he comes out with another witch in hand. Many of us suspected Rachel would be the second to join the coven given the buildup including asking the archimagira and look how that turned out? Give Morgan some time. Noah hasn't built up a romantic relationship with her yet even if we have started to see that one will grow soon. I suspect someone else will join between her and Priscilla for that reason.

2025-07-21 00:56:04 +0000 UTCQuestion, will Morgan have to be part of the coven to attend Willomere next year since the wait is so long? Or will she be allowed to attend? 2025-07-21 00:51:40 +0000 UTCGlad to know that Gabriel is going to suffer the consequences. Here's to hoping we see how badly he is messed up the next time he tries to lash out at the Blackwoods! I wonder how failing to pay a debt to the fae compares to not keeping an oath... At least Noah gets to keep his word that if Gabriel hurt Morgan he'd do worse. I am very much looking forward to that! And he better suffer because trying to process through who he did and didn't kill because his crimes were exposed (but only to two people, because witch gossip spreads at the speed of frozen molasses?) was almost as bad as what he did to Morgan. Did no one else in his mother's coven try to attack him or something? Or are most witch families so fucked up that they just did not care if it wasn't a warlock that was killed? We've seen witch gossip spread so fast that only those two witches, Gabriel and Noah's mothers, knowing about such a terrible threat seems almost unrealistic. I don't know. I liked the fight, and I liked the fae's downfall due to the oath he himself demanded. Gabriel's backstory just felt like it came out of nowhere even if the idea of someone like him was already foreshadowed by the two onesies earlier. That and the Maiden saying the other warlocks are entitled pricks... Am I missing something that foreshadowed their relationship or even Gabriel's fascination with Noah? I only saw him focusing on Morgan. And it never sounded like he cared about Noah when they talked on the phone in book 1, either.

2025-07-20 22:59:10 +0000 UTCOn one hand, I very much wanted the covenant to expand. On the other hand, at this rate we will get 13 of these books and I am 100% ok with that.

2025-07-20 22:58:30 +0000 UTCWe definitely got two Maiden chapters, but you are right, I don't remember a Mother chapter.

2025-07-20 22:41:17 +0000 UTC"Aside from Morgan having just come into her power and not even knowing how to shield herself, much less fight a being thousands of years old," Seems to be missing the rest of the paragraph there

2025-07-20 22:32:18 +0000 UTCAgreed. A quasi cliffhanger is fine, but the blurb after the epilog of W1 promised no more cliffhangers IMO.

2025-07-20 22:18:39 +0000 UTCSo, I had expected 12 or 13 chapters for the war-for-Morgan but I'm glad that is done, Morgan's attitude is as sassy as ever, and now the Fieldings get tasked with finding Noah's ma in a witchly legit way.. Looking forward to bits of W4 soon, but I love what all has gone into W3!

2025-07-20 22:18:19 +0000 UTCAwesome chapters! Terrible ending! On the last chapter,I guess book 4 is going to start with a party? We needed bondings

2025-07-20 22:17:40 +0000 UTCHe could but with audio in mind it just takes so mich out of the flow of the book, and even so most of the time you know who is saying what

2025-07-20 22:17:37 +0000 UTCDoes Noah’s oath to be outside their foster home the day she ages out count as obsolete? Or are they going to go back at the start of the next book?

2025-07-20 22:16:25 +0000 UTCGreat ending. Super excited for when this continues. Anyone have thoughts on Lammastide Conclave? I’m drawing a blank. Edit: Lammastide is a harvest type festival in the British isles.

2025-07-20 21:56:00 +0000 UTCSo pointing out the obvious here: easy way to get Brittany and Hannah is to make a deal similar to the one the Winthrops made. A warlock or trinitara witch of the Blackwood line will be bound to one of their family within a few decades. Noah's kids will need their own covens someday afterall, and a warlock or trinitara witch is worth a whole lot more than any onesees.

2025-07-20 21:42:05 +0000 UTCGreat story, thank you. The ending was not my cup of tea, But I am looking forward to the next book.

2025-07-20 21:38:10 +0000 UTCLove it. Was expecting a bit more of a battle over Morgan, but I did not see Gabriel being set up to be a big bad for the series. And really related to Noah. Man, what a twist. And sets up things for a much bigger universe. Also, thank you for ending it with a big teaser instead of a cliff of Morgan missing or something.

2025-07-20 20:55:03 +0000 UTCHoly moly what an ending, although I would appreciate it if you would add a blank says during some of the conversations. It can be difficult to know who’s saying what in the epilogue
