2024 Writing in Review
Added 2025-01-01 20:22:49 +0000 UTCIn typical writer-fashion, I'm going to try and quantify what I did in 2024.
The big one, of course, was quitting the day job and going full-time. Thank you all again for making that possible.
In no particular order, other than how I did the columns in my spreadsheet, here it is:
I finished a novella (40,000 words) called Hearts on Ice, because it's entirely reasonable for a 57-year old dude to write a first-person, YA cozy sapphic hockey romance.
I got nearly 40,000 words written in a new Kensington series which will probably not be called Grinder -- or I'll just lean all the way in on that one.
Warlock was the big one, where I finished Warlock with 100k words written in 2024, as well as completing Warlock 2 at 120k, and getting a good start of 30k on Warlock 3.
I got over 20k words written in A Brief, Interminable Peace, the latest in my Alexis Carew series writing as J.A. Sutherland -- that's the one I've was stuck on for nearly four years and just couldn't get it done. But it's over now, and I've got a good start on Carew #8 for this year.
Overall, I wrote over 400k words last year, with the longest streak of consecutive days writing being 47. The highest daily averages I reached were 2318 as an overall average for the year up until whatever date that was, the highest 7-day running average I had was 5616/day, which was over 35k in a week ... somewhat excessive, and the highest 30-day run average I had was 3989.
I ended up the year with an overall 1098/day average for the year, which is pretty good, considering that the writing really started in earnest back in July. My target for next year is to maintain a 2000/day average.
...
Which I'm behind on today.
So I should get back to work.

2025-01-06 01:41:12 +0000 UTCJust finished rereading Warlock 2 preview chapters. Already pre ordered. Hope you had a great holiday. Please take good care of yourself; rest, eat clean, meditate, exercise, and hydrate. Now get to work, fucker, because I've GOT to know what happens next!!!! At least you don't do cliffhangers like C. M. Alongi.
