I really didn’t expect to be posting this..

A few hours ago, my Grandpa Jim passed away. Most of you know how close I was to him and my grandma. These are my dad’s parents and my heart is breaking over not only him leaving before I could see him one last time, but also for the pain my dad, uncle, aunt, and grandma must feel. I’m so so grateful that they all were able to be there with him so much this past month while things were like a rollercoaster. It was only last week my dad was telling me how he and my grandma felt my grandpa would be leaving the rehab facility to go home without hospice. Things took a nosedive a couple days ago and today got even worse. The family was just about to start preparing plans for hospice when my grandpa passed. Just before going, he smiled at my uncle. It was the first time they’d seen him smile in days due to his discomfort. We’re all very grateful that he’s no longer in any pain.

I’ll be going home on Thursday. This trip was already planned because my mom’s 60th is Friday. I imagine I’ll end up staying longer than planned for the funeral.

Hold your loved ones extra tight and tell them you love them. There really never is enough time to spend with the people who mean the most.
