"proffered a hand" -> "offered a hand"; proffer is not proper for offering a hand, it has a very specific nuance in English and is sort of a weird/formal way to give someone documents or materials (ie presenting for them to take possession). Most people won't even use the word proffer at all, even in the correct context. @MelasD

2024-09-20 03:11:53 +0000 UTCThis is going to be interesting. First she brought home two death eaters. Now she'll bring home Hartia the Unseelie Lord. When she brings home the Beast, I guess everybody will either be completely used to that stuff by that point, or they will jump into a lake of molten lava screaming. :)

2024-04-04 12:06:18 +0000 UTCI don't think Basil has a realistic idea of how deadly Salvos actually is, because she fought him when she had everything on cooldown and she was mostly looking over his shoulder to copy his space magic homework rather than actually kill him, because he's a Fairy and she has a soft spot for them because of Lilly. Those two death eaters, on the other hand, are shitting bricks. :)

2024-04-04 12:00:01 +0000 UTCThe chained person is mentioned again, and this increasingly looks like something that might matter a lot in the final battle.

2024-04-04 08:12:06 +0000 UTCI expected more of a catharsis from him, so this feels incomplete. For instance, for him to look at himself, what kind of a person he had to become to be "a useful tool" for Regnorex - a cruel, sneering bastard who kills and tortures others for fun because he's bored; he would have thought about it from the perspective of what Ivory would have thought, how she would have been disappointed to see her Basil turn into that. That would've been emotionally torturous for him, not something that can be just glossed over.

2024-04-04 01:46:05 +0000 UTCThere is some of Vedanta in Salvos' perception of self - remember, she tried to identify rocks and see them as individual beings she could talk to, and was shocked when she understood that rocks are all the same, all self-less. That stuck with her forever. To her, encompassing others in the definition of self is a natural thing, through what Buddhists would call metta, loving-kindness. I would say Regnorex is selfish in the bad way, because in his world there's only him, his tools, and obstacles. Salvos is selfish in a good way, because she makes both herself and others grow and emancipate themselves.

2024-04-03 21:41:29 +0000 UTCBeing selfish is usually discouraged in society, it's even considered a sin. But when salvos's thought process is always inherently selfish, it somehow just seems right. Like it's healthy and feels true to herself. Maybe I'm just resonating weirdly with it but I wish I could be like that
