Poll time!

Hello dear students!

I can't believe it has nearly been a week since launching! I am still over the moon about the response I've had to Squid School. There are already over 300 of us at this point... how amazing is that!? Thank you all for being here.

It is important to me in these early months to shape Squid School together, so I wanted to take a poll about your vintage knitting interests! This is completely optional, but the results will weight into my first year of patterns as well as lecture topics.

You're welcome to vote for more than one era!

Without further ado, I ask:

What era of knitting patterns are you most interested in?

Comments

Since seeing your Mary Poppins sweater at Rhinebeck, I want to update my response and include pre-1920s!

Yes, absolutely! I totally agree that the Edwardian/ Victorian patterns have a ton of hidden gems that are surprisingly easy to incorporate into a contemporary-ish wardrobe!

Thinking about the vintage patterns I could easily find on Ravelry, it seems the 30s 40s 50s have the styles we would most likely recognise and find attractive to wear ourselves, but there were a handful of 20s patterns that were very interesting in their bold colour choices, and it is just at the end of that decade, 1929, that we see the move to a new silhouette and a different interpretation of art deco. There were not a lot of patterns from the Edwardian and late Victorian eras, but there were a few that were surprisingly attractive and modern looking with at least one beautiful coat knitted up by someone on Rav. There are sure to be a lot of hidden gems out there that didn't appear in my basic searches for "1910s" and "1912" etc.

I knit a lot of 40s pieces, but would love to be able to incorperate more 30s into my wardrobe. Its hard to find 30s patterns with a 42 bust pattern!

I tend to enjoy styles from the 40s and 50s, but honestly am open to knitting an exploring other patterns / eras. I'm pretty new to vintage in general, and would love to broaden my horizons :)

1930s style is my absolute favourite! But I would be happy to see a mix of patterns from all the different eras.

I am so new to vintage style, I had to do some Google-fu to look into it. I didn't realize there were such strong differences between decades. I found pieces I love from all of them! But the 40s silhouette really is darling. Hits all the right buttons.

I love the 30-50's.

Loving the 40s and 50s - and can't wait to knit with all these FABULOUS knitters!!

Wow hard to choose. It seems 40's love is hard on vintage knitters🤭💃

Yes, we can. I love it all too but the 40's are my favorite. (I think, lol)

I am loving this feedback! Can you all see the poll results?

If you have the basic skills down, I think you'll be just fine! I am doing my best to offer patterns for all skill levels. :)

1930-1950

I love it all! My personal style is probably 40-50s motorcycle girl.

Difficult to choose just one!

Everything from war-time and the few years just after are my most favourite- but the Depression Era had some fabulous styles!

1930s-1950s, can't wait to see what you come up with!

I love it all but I agree about the strong shoulder game of the 1940s. 😂

So hard to choose , love them all in different ways....

I am an intermediate knitter. I hope this school will not be too difficult for me. I am very excited to improve my skill.

Actually I am interested in ALL... Can't wait to see what you come up with...

My favorite period in post-war 40's and early 50s, but I love them all.

The 40s is always my favorite; but I have knit a lot of 30s pieces in the past and love that decade for home knitting as well!

Im a sucker for the 40s and early 50s but I sure am excited to learn about all of the eras listed!

I love them all

Honestly all of the above, voted for my favourites but it's all a win to me

Having only just watched Downton it was the pre and ww1 eras I was blown away by.

A thing i really enjoy in vintage fashion is that both the 1890s and 1940s went hard for strong shoulders 😍
