Added 2018-02-17 10:53:19 +0000 UTCMy previous post caused a lot of stir, so I guess I wasn't clear enough. On hindsight, maybe using words male protagonist wasn't the best idea since the word protagonist is often associated with stories. Usually it's not a problem because playable characters in games are also game's story protagonists, but not this time. So let's make this distinction official: from now on, when I'm talking about the story, I'm going to say Story's Protagonist, and when I'm talking about gameplay elements like dating, then I'm going to say Main Character (mc).
Story's Protagonist is still Kate, and that's not going to change. But we're not making a visual novella here, we are making a sandbox. And some parts of this sandbox are unisex. We're not sacrificing any story or gameplay elements to add Male Main Character (mmc). Giving people an option to play through the usisex parts will take little to no development time.
Let me give you a simple example. The game has food. Some characters like when you give them a cake. It doesn't matter if the character who gives a cake is a man or a woman. The gameplay mechanic of giving someone a cake is unisex. So if we add mmc, then he'll be able to give people cakes without us having to add new “man gives cake to woman” functionality because the game already has more universal “mc gives cake to someone” functionality and it doesn't matter whether mc is a man or a woman.
So no, we're not caving under pressure and we're not changing our game to have a male Story's Protagonist. We're still making my version of the game. It's just, there's no reason not add mmc with limited functionality because it will take relatively little amount of time. Since you're paying me to develop games I try to write posts, show images, make polls, etc. to keep you in loop about the game's development. But just because I post here every day doesn't mean I'm changing my mind about the game every time I post here.
I wanted to make this game for several years. I understand it's a very ambitious and complicated long term project, but I will make this game, one way or another. I just need some time to make it. If you don't think I can do it, then you can unsubscribe and try the game much later if you want. But if you look how much I was able to do with my team in the last year, you'll see how invaluable your support is.

Make it a friend of hers, and his story only unlocks after they have sex or something like that... from then on let us decide who we want to play with on any given day. I'm staying I'm not going anywhere buddy, but I will at the same time throw some ideas out to you to try and help out if I can at all. This way you don't have to change anything in Kate's story, and let's you add more depth with another characters story. While att the same time adding to Kate's story because she will still interact with the male character. Just tryin to help man.

DS clearly wrote in his post that it won't take much of his time to develop a mmc on the side.. Being able to play as a male is the only reason i'll support this project.
2018-02-17 13:38:19 +0000 UTCI'll put my take here, fact is you can't please everyone when developing these types of games, Eric proved this in the previous project, I agreed with both parties arguments on that subject, fans and haters... but anyway the poll showed that 53% of supporters here want you to go with your original plan, something like 36% said to have the ability to choose the gender, and about 11% said a male MC (figures I'm plucking from memory here so they may not be right 100%)... moving forward I think that there shouldn't be a compromise here as you have already asked this question, just make the decision and go with the majority vote on this, this is what I would do in your position DS. The storm that kicked off again over something as petty as calling the male idea a protagonist instead of the Main Character, itself in my opinion is a pretty petty thing to argue about to be honest, it's like pronunciation of Potato or Potarto...

Like the first time I saw Alice getting a massage from Eric and confronted her about it. When she told me if I didn't like it and I should work on my skills, I was like "YOU BITCH!". Then after that, I just kept putting spiders in her bed and.... you know..... Guess I showed her. ;P
