New Promo Flipping

What is New Promo Flipping?

New Promo Flipping is the idea to make a profit on the fluctuation of newly released promo cards. It’s one of the most skilful and riskiest trading methods.

I will cover the basics to give you some input and techniques to learn, but these are just a small part of the concept and don’t cover everything. There are many exceptions and it depends a lot on the current market situation. This guide is a very simplified concept.

Risk and Reward

As said above, this is a high-risk method because nobody can predict the exact prices a card will settle at, but there are tricks to make it easier.

The easiest trick is to compare it with other cards around the same price or the same stats. That way you can identify if a card is too high or too low valued.

Another very lucky situation would be an extinct card. It’s not always guaranteed to profit on an extinct card but it’s easier to predict a price if a card stays at a specific price. You have time to evaluate the potential price after a price range update and that can increase your success rate. You still need to compare it with other cards to have an idea about the new pricing point, and sometimes it also means skipping an extinct card because the expected price point is below the current price.

The rewards are spread. I had times when I doubled my coins with this method and times when I just made 5k per card. In general, it's impossible to nail the right prediction every time but following the techniques above gives you a rough idea.

Supply and Demand

Another thing that matters a lot is the supply and demand concept. Sometimes it just happens that a card is super hyped and the supply is too low for the card to stay at the same price. In these cases, you can easily predict the card to go higher.

However, we also had promos with incredible supply and cards just couldn’t hold a consistent price with the incoming supply. That made them go lower even if the card was popular or very meta. The balance between supply and demand is still a very key concept for many trading methods including this one.

There is also a trader’s hype for this trading method. This method gained a lot of popularity over the last years and more people tried it out. Usually, they burn their coins with the first Promo Flipping and are skipping Promo Flipping for the next promo. You can expect a good week of New Promo Flipping when other people failed the previous week and you can expect bad results when every trader is talking about it. This can easily shift the supply and demand balance.

Buy and Sell times

Buy and sell times are a tough topic. I know most people search for these clear rules to follow, but this method doesn’t allow much for it. There are a few common patterns, but they do not apply to every trade.

As the market goes low during the night, the same happens with promo cards. It is common to see a dip during the EU night and it's one of the better times to get some good deals on top of the lows. Most of the time you can see a rise when the EU players wake up again, that’s when the demand for promo cards increases same as the prices. Buying times are usually between midnight to 4 am, and selling times are usually around 8 am and 2 pm.

This is very simplified, it takes some experience and market understanding to know when to buy and sell cards exactly. In reality, these buy windows and sell windows are much smaller and very individual, not only for each card but also for each promo. We aim to cover trades around new promo card flipping as much as possible and also give you an idea of what we can expect for each promo.
