OTW/Headliner Trading

What is OTW/Headliner Trading?

OTW and Headliner Trading is a trading method based on the hype around the real-life performances of OTW and Headliner cards! Headliner Cards were not part of the game for the past few years but I still like to include them in this guide.

OTW and Headliner cards get upgrades through individual and team-based performances. That creates demand and price fluctuations. They also get upgrades through performance-based cards such as TOTW or MOTM releases.

Buying in advance

Buying cards a few days before the next game and selling on game day is the easiest way to make a profit on OTW and Headliner cards. It’s already known that people like to gamble on the OTW cards and that creates demand before the kick-off. We can use that demand and buy before everyone else and sell them just before the game.

I had the experience that OTW/Headliner cards are getting low around Sunday-Monday together with the WL Sell-off, but I also like to take a look between Wednesday and Friday. It’s a shorter hold time and can still result in profits. Cards that had a small chance of appearing in the next TOTW have a sell-off around Wednesday if they are not included.

Selling before the game is recommended because that guarantees you some profit and you can get yourself prepared for other/new buys. Gambling on a great performance is similar to playing a casino and we don’t recommend that. It's even possible that the player gets injured and doesn’t receive any performance-based upgrades anymore, which reduces the demand and the card loses value.

Buying during the game

Buying during the game is the riskier but also the most profitable option. As mentioned, OTW and Headliner cards are performance-based cards and their demand increases after a goal or assist during a football game.

Buying cards right after a goal and selling a few minutes later can result in profits and it’s the magic of buying OTW and Headliner cards during the game. Unfortunately, the buying window is very small and we recommend using live-score apps to get the fastest updates. Buying at inflated prices is not recommended because that reduces the profit potential and could even end up in a loss if the player doesn’t keep up with the performance of other players.

Selling time is almost straight after buying. We want to catch the biggest hype and that is usually a few minutes after a goal or assist. We don’t aim to hold longer than that because sometimes a different player can score more goals and then the hype dies out. We want to avoid these risks while hitting the peak hype moment.

Buying after a good performance

There’s a short time frame after the game with low demand. That’s because people who want to gamble on the OTW/Headliner card already bought it and the people who decided to stay away as the prices are too high don’t look at the card anymore. That allows a short window with decent prices to get on the OTW/Headliner hype again.

Prices and hype depend a lot on the player's performance and also on the performance of other players in other games.

In an ideal case the Player Performance was good enough to secure him a spot in many TOTWs and the hype starts rising again similar to the TOTW hype with Gold cards. I recommend reading that guide in terms of potential buying and selling windows as they are almost identical.

The safest selling window for OTW and Headliner cards after a game is between Monday and Tuesday. Most TOTW Predictions are getting posted around that time and the hype for OTW and Headliner cards is at its peak.

Special Cases

Leaked TOTWs

Leaked TOTWs can change the demand immediately and this can be used for Rush Trading if you catch cards at non-inflated prices. We don’t recommend this with cards that were already in TOTW Predictions, it makes more sense to stick with surprising TOTW appearances.

Similar to the TOTW Hype guide, it's also possible that the leaked TOTW reveals that the OTW/Headliner card is not included in the TOTW and that can dramatically decrease the demand for the card. It makes sense to sell your OTW/Headliner card before Tuesday evening if you want to avoid that risk.

Buying during TOTW Announcement

It's not that uncommon to get some surprising OTW/Headliner cards in the TOTW without any leaks. In these situations, it applies the same concept as the TOTW Hype. If you are super early and can get the cards at the average prices, it could be worth trying some Rush Trading. We also recommend selling these cards shortly after to catch the most hype.

Summary

- OTWs/Headliners are performance-based cards

- Buying ahead of other people is recommended

- Selling windows during the hype is recommended
