What's the difference between Flipping and Investing?
Added 2023-09-18 12:32:51 +0000 UTCThese are simplified terms to make our Discord easier to understand and to find the right information in the right place.
Flipping
Flipping = Player-created demand. That means a price change based on the fact that people are going to buy it/don’t buy it. This is usually a short-term price change.
As an example, buying OTW cards after a poor performance and selling these in the hype before the next game in a week is flipping. This is flipping because players are creating the demand for the OTW as they expect a TOTW-worthy performance for the next game. Another common flipping method is Thursday Flipping which takes less than 12 hours to buy and sell again. Both of these are considered flipping because of the player demand but they still have different hold times.
Even though these two examples have different hold times, flipping is still considered a short-term and fast trading method to make a quick return.
Investing
Investing = EA created demand. We expect a price increase through the content EA releases and it's usually a long-term market movement.
EA-created demand is most common for SBCs, but it's not the only way to invest. As an example, buying Meta Liga Nos or Eredivisie Cards for a Foundation Objective and waiting for the release would be investing too.
Investments are based on the fact that EA releases something that increases the demand, but we don’t know when specific content is released and that’s why investing is considered a long-term market movement. However, buying potential MM cards on Thursday morning during the rewards and selling them Thursday evening with the SBC is investing but it's done in less than 12h time.
Similar to flipping, investing also has different methods and techniques which are slightly different than the definition based on the hold time, that’s why we additionally use the source of demand to identify and differentiate flipping and investing.
What’s better?
We teach both and both are great ways to make coins. It depends on you and which of these two suits you the best. Both are part of our Discord and we recommend using both to maximise the profits.
Flipping can be easier to predict because it's a short-term market change and can be done at any time of the day. It's also easier to grind after a while and it can be more consistent as it's not relying on good content. But it takes more learning, losses are unavoidable and it takes some time to master the right buy/sell times.
Investing usually has a higher % return, can be done in bigger numbers, is very straightforward, and has the lucky punch potential to hit something randomly good. The downside is that you depend on EA and the content plan, sometimes the content just isn’t good enough to make your investments rise.
Summary
- Flipping = Based on player-created demand, usually a short-term market movement
- Investing = Based on content demand, usually a long-term market movement
