The rise of the autobiographical game – and also shotguns

This week, The Resties visit the furthest ends of the indie game spectrum.
On one end, despelote: a sneeze and you break it autobiographical adventure about childhood, family, life in the arts, and how the "beautiful game" can be bigger than all of us.
On the other, Shotgun Cop Man: a game about a cop with a shotgun, man!

I'm guessing it's just to make editing easier by having distinct starts and stops, but I've also wondered this.

2025-05-26 14:34:39 +0000 UTCJust wanted to pass along a recommendation I got from TheMinnMax Show! StarVaders is an incredible tactics deck builder roguelite, it’s currently Overwhelmingly positive on Steam and quickly became one of my favorites this year! The tactics scratch the same itch of creating ridiculously overpowered combos in Steam World Heist 2 last year!

I registered my interest on the first day, but I've heard nothing until today, when I finally got an email saying, "We got your registration. Bro, it's going to be while before you're able to order. Get ready to wait"

2025-05-17 03:46:31 +0000 UTCI play too many video games. I can't not play them. But I neglect other stuff that's more important. I wish I neglected my video games and practiced my violin instead. I wish I read as much as I did twenty years ago. Which is to say, I think you are already where you need to be. I'd recommend, don't change. However, I know that's kind of rude, and it's not my place to tell you how to live your life. You want to beat more games. Maybe try some super-short indie games? If you know it's only going to be a 4 hour commitment, it might be easier to dedicate some time to it. Or set aside a specific time to play games. Play multi-player games with friends. You'll get some socialization out of it, plus you'll be committed to your friends. What about playing some cool games with your son. I wish I had a son or daughter to play, say, Mario Odyssey with. You can get in some quality time, and do something entertaining for the both of you. Maybe try to pick a couple of games that you've heard amazing things about, where you feel like you'll really get something worthwhile out of the experience, and just focus on those. I'd suggest Outer Wilds, a truly beautiful game. Or maybe challenge a gamer friend to see who can beat game X first? Alternatively, do you listen to How did this get Played podcast? You might find it motivating to participate in some of their "let's play - you play"? I hope some of this is somewhat helpful.

2025-05-17 03:43:11 +0000 UTCQuestion for you guys. How do you deal with burnout? I get time in my mornings while my son is in school (I work a night job) but I can’t help but just not play games. I buy them I’m obsessed with gaming and game podcasts but it’s hard to work up the energy to turn on my ps5 or boot up something on my pc. I have a switch and probably beat 3 games total it took me like 3 months to beat metaphor. I do make music and I think maybe the fomo of not touching my instrument is a thought? I still love games and I just want to beat them more frequently lol. Love the podcast guys!
