Switch 2 BTS & the forgotten history of the Wii

This week, Frushtick went hands-on with the Nintendo Switch 2 at an NYC event. We're saving our opinions of Nintendo's announcements for Friday's Besties episode, but Frushtick couldn't wait to share his behind-the-scenes experience of the event with our Patreon subscribers!
In the back half, Plante reports the history of the Nintendo Wii's launch. Because we wouldn't be getting the Switch 2 without Nintendo's massively popular, oddly overlooked motion-controlled console.
Honorable mentions:
That time Plante bought a Wii

2025-04-19 03:46:57 +0000 UTCHey gang hope you can help me out. I am looking for a game that the boys talked about a while back. I barely remember but It was a history focused game where you played as a Franciscan monk and had arguments with the devil? I remember the episode being where Plante discussed his relationship with religion and was super intrigued. I know that’s not much to go on!

2025-04-19 03:12:21 +0000 UTCI just stumbled across this article, which I thought was interesting, about Nintendo’s perspective on bundling vs. charging for software, in light of the $10 charge for the Switch 2 demo software. Maybe more appropriate to the specific things discussed in the Besties episode, though. https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2022/05/reggie-had-to-fight-for-wii-sports-as-a-pack-in-and-miyamoto-wasnt-happy

2025-04-13 23:27:50 +0000 UTCThat photo could have been me. I waited for a Wii in a Best Buy parking lot overnight in State College PA on launch day, got there at like 1, 2 in the morning, it was freezing cold, everybody was still sitting in their cars kind of looking at each other and doing mental math to decide whether we needed to go start a line in the cold yet. Around 3AM somebody broke the truce and we all went and stood/sat in front of the store until it opened, and I managed to drive home with one. Last time I ever did that, but I'm glad I did it for the Wii.

2025-04-13 06:43:26 +0000 UTCHave you guys checked out Dark Diety 2 yet? It’s a pretty faithful continuation of classic Fire Emblem Sacred Stones pixel art and animation, with updated class mechanics. there’s kind of a dizzying number of ways to customize characters with specific buffs via weapon runes, rings, and ability progression. it feels like a bit of a learning curve but it will be worth a few playthroughs. randomly stumbled across the guy promoting his game on tiktok, but it absolutely itches that old school Fire Emblem Sacred Stones itch
