Most of you will never play the new Batman game

What if I told you there's a new Batman: Arkham game that channels the design of Batman: Arkham Asylum, features an all-star voice cast, and contains a clever narrative twist? You'd probably want to play it, right?

One catch. Batman: Arkham Shadow is a VR game built from the ground up for Meta's Oculus Quest 3.

Plante donned the headset to inhabit the soul of Bruce Wayne and returned with some nice things to say about this oddball game. But he can't shake the many lingering questions around VR.

Plus, Frushtick shares his thoughts on Antonblast, a 2D action-platformer that calls to mind Wario and Pizza Tower.

I had a similar experience! I'm still playing through it but I'm close to the end and i really do feel like Batman while I'm playing! the game clicks for me 100%. feels like playing Arkham Asylum for the first time again, which is magical

I do think its kinda weird that we have a kind of videogame that a huge portion of the population just cannot play... like. I feel like discussion of EVERY successful VR game is always accompanied by a brief aside about how VR sucks for a lot of people the play, or how some people (Hi, me) cant even play it at all.

I completely get the argument that everyone needs to do the configuration to not get sick, but I think we've gotten numb to how long it takes to compile shaders every time a game or graphics card updates (looking at you dragon age). PC gaming, God bless it, is still a labor of love.

On the topic of 2001 - have either of you guys seen the video of Part 4 synced to Echoes by Pink Floyd? Definitely coincidental, but an entertaining watch you can find on youtube!

Russ if you haven’t given Genshin a shot recently it could be worth another look. The abundance of free content is shocking and a decent chunk of the gameplay loop is just exploring the open world with very light puzzles. Even some of the more “challenging” content can be completed with free characters. Obviously all the gacha hooks are there but if you can ignore them you can find a lot of fun.

Smh it's like Plante hasn't read/seen 2010: Odyssey II which clearly explains what the space baby's deal is

I haven't finished the episode, yet, but Plantes description of VR vs traditional video games sounds kind of like the difference between a stage production and a movie. If you tried to make the dark knight a stage production, you could spend enormous resources and make something that just won't live up to the movie. In the meantime you'll also miss out on or ignore what is great about live theater. If you try to force an action movie to the stage or a triple A action game to VR, you're not playing to the strengths of the medium.

GTA: Vice City was my favorite GTA, of the PS2 generation. … however, got to give a shout out to a game that cured one of my critical critiques of GTA… Sleeping Dogs included GPS, that gave you a clear path. I completely understand that the tech doesn’t make sense, era wise, with previous GTA titles, but it truly improved the genre, imo. 😘

I'll be sure to bring on another VR person next time we cover a big release

Im so glad it clicked for you! (and thanks for sharing)

Boy, I really hope you guys check out The Great Circle in a future episode. It may be my personal favorite game of the year.

Just wanted to register my wildly different experience from Plante's on Batman. Maybe I am not self-aware enough, but I felt totally absorbed by the VR mechanics. I DID feel like Batman! The "problems" that Plante seemed to frame as intrinsic shortcomings of VR games didn't match my experience at all. Game is very fun!

Monument Valley 3 came out today on Netflix for iOS & Android for those who enjoy those games.

The part about getting stuck on geometry reminds me of the Adult Swim short This House Has People In It. Deeply upsetting!

Dropping in on the latest comment section because I NEED Griffin to know that the United Healthcare shooter has a tweet complaining about the Destiny Crucible meta back in 2019 lmaooo

I really wish they brought on someone who actually likes VR games cause it’s clear Plante doesn’t really enjoy it. Which is fine, but as someone who REALLY loves VR, it’s hard to hear someone dunk on it for all the reasons you love it.

I was thinking about asking about more VR content. I wonder how many other people took advantage of the psvr2 Black Friday sale. That was a disgustingly large discount. But not getting access to the batman game is painful.

Trombone Champ VR just came out; now THAT'S a reason to strap a puter to your noggin.
