Gunna go check out Scarlet Maiden brb. Princess and Conquest is another surprisingly good pixel art booby game. Edit after a couple hours playing: Is it a pretty stripped down roguelike? Yeah but bloat wouldn't be a good idea, especially so in an erotic adventure. It plays well, sounds and looks good, and seeing new naughty animations is as good a dopamine loop as bigger guns/swords. It's light, amusing, and pretty harmless if illogical in its sexuality - obviously reality isn't like this and it's never trying to be more than well-made cheesecake. Plant's blushing response is great. He can't even find the NPR words to describe xD

I love the ease of gameplay but the difficulty of levels, the Dead Cells-like ability to progress your run, and the flat out lewdness of the game. I don't think I've played anything so overt since leisure suit Larry in the land of the lounge lizards back in the early 90s

For real though, thanks for being good sports about it. It's nice to see you take a game like this on its merits, even if it's obviously a little shocking at first. There is a lot of experimentation going on in the western adult games space right now. Steam opening up to this kind of content has made it more lucrative for devs, many of who also have experience making other games. I've been saying for a while now that eventually, there's going to be an adult game that's capital-G Good enough that it's hard for mainstream gaming press to ignore. Scarlet Maiden might not be that game, but I think it's coming. (Heh.)

Except instead of engaging in terrifying combat, you explore and think and solve puzzles. Simogo is a phenomenal indie shop, and I think they smashed this one out of the park.

Sucks to have Hades 2 hyped up then when the time comes you guys upload a completely different certainly-not-the-Besties podcast. He seems nice but I don't know Brendan from a hole in the wall and, frankly, I'd rather listen to nothing at all in the hopes that we'd get a full Hades 2 episode next week. Now, if tradition holds, we'll get a three minute blow off review about Hades 2 before moving on to 45 minutes of being told the latest Catholic coded search action game is a art while Hoops plays Balatro in another window. At the end of the day, we're all adults and it's just a podcast but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed. Love you, boys.

I am delighted that this genre has come up, because I am fascinated by adult games, so get ready for an essay. I relate to Chris' catholic upbringing (southern bible belt protestant for me) and I've spent the last decade trying to free myself from the shackles of guilt and shame such an upbringing tends to hardwire into you. Aside from seeking sex positivity, as a queer person, I'm also always seeking representation. There are still folks that seem to think the mere existence of a queer person is something obscene, which means that sometimes pornography is a person's first introduction to queer people. But there's something special about this particular medium of Adult Content: the fact they are video games. It's different from the three minute plot of your typical porno, establishing that the housewife is home alone when the delivery guy rings the doorbell. There's interaction in video games which demands a certain level of quality not necessary for a passive experience like a movie. Let me give some specific examples. The lewd game I've spent the most time playing is Seeds of Chaos. Sure, there's goblin tiddies, but there's also political intrigue, and D&D elements such as stats, perception checks, dice rolls, and a map to explore. I've played 46 hours so far and there's still a lot I haven't seen. Granted, in the time I've owned the game, they've done several major updates, at least one requiring a fresh save file, but I would mark that as a positive. It's neat how much they keep adding and updating. There's definitely moments of cringe in the writing, but I appreciate what the game is doing as a whole. Next example, Cloud Meadow. I've seen it described as "horny Stardew Valley" and "Sun Haven on Viagra." I've only got 4 hours in this one, but I'm fascinated by the farming and combat mechanics. My main complaint with this one is a common complaint I have for games: the gender options are binary boring. I'm a transman and seeing a character with a body like mine is extremely rare in games, porn or not. Another thing about Adult Games that I find fun: the fact Steam tells you if one of your friends has a game wishlisted. If you are bold enough to publicly wishlist Lust From Beyond, then yeah I'll gift it to you!! Try sending your pals porn games they want and think no one will notice. It's hilarious. I gifted Treasures of Nadia to one friend who gifted me back Gachi: Space Orgasm, a third-person shooter. I'll have to give Gachi: Space Orgasm another try with a controller, when I played it mouse & keyboard, I died before I could even get to any Space Foreplay... Anyway, I'll for sure be checking out Scarlet Maiden, so thank you Bennett Foddy. I would love more discussion on Adult Games! I think it's something to do with how you can learn a lot about a society based on what it finds taboo. I'd love to hear more on why there isn't more sex in main stream games, in comparison to how common a sex scene is in cinema. I've been a long time fan of The Besties and I've long meant to comment and thank you for the dozens of games I've snagged on y'all's recommendation, but here I am, only finally commenting after the horny game discussion. Last note, Carnal Instinct is in early access, and I haven't played it, it's on my wishlist, but if anyone has played it, I'd love a review! (and can anyone tell me if the character creator will let me be a boy with a pussy, thank you) I've also heard Midnight Castle Succubus DX is good, but I haven't played it myself. I was laughing and thinking the same thing. No judgement! It's just funny how comfort levels around such subjects can vary. Looking at the Steam page, I was really relieved to see how positive all the "action" was. It made me think that maybe it is trying to appeal to the giggly part of the brain. If the gameplay is approachable and familiar, the art great, and the mood joyful, maybe it IS just trying to let you have a fun, giggly time that feels a bit "forbidden".

Each game is a clone of a different classic formula, Castlevania, Mega Man, Zelda. But y'know, with boobs. But the games themselves are really well made and the pixel art is good!

It's a horror game done in part as an homage to the Famicom horror game Sweet Home (never released in the US, but there's a fan tl.) Highly recommend, it is top notch horror. It's not on steam, but gog and itch have it. I also recommend playing with the erotic scenes in their original pixel format rather than the revamped illustrations. Imo, a double playthrough of both Abaddon and Sweet Home would be exactly the kind of thing Resties especially is into it.
