No, I'd say the weirdest thing is the vague sense of wrongness of living near other people, or even living in a climate like this. There's something deep down that knows I belong on the savannah, lumbering around, seeking out watering holes, mingling with a herd...some part of me is desperate to go all the way, and that's deeply unsettling. I can drown it out most of the time by busying myself with daily life...it's also alleviated by having someone like me I can spend my life with, like, 'there's another elephant, part of my herd, I don't have to panic.' I'm kind of overstating it, I get by. It's just there, in the back of my mind, on this weird instinctual level."
