Wargame question

Hey everyone, I'm toying around with the idea of the wargame a bit more and I have one thing I'm still unsure of.

How many units would you like each team to have? this will have a big impact on the overall feel of the game and the units and here are the options

A- Group of powerful units, something like 4-5 units, each one with a few abilities and a good amount of resilence, think of this as a DnD party vs another

B- A small team of 5-8 or so units, this will have a bunch of troops and maybe 1 or 2 more powerful units, an example of this would be a bandit leader with some regular minions and maybe 1 bodyguard

C- Warbands, big armies of 10+ units, this would mean mostly a lot of basic units that usually die in a single hit or two with a few big units throw in there that can beat a bunch of little guys on their own

Personally I'm more inclined to option A or B, just posting C to see what people like. For now I'm trying to get 2 teams done to playtest some basic rules and see if they work and are fun

Personally I like C because it can be used in supplement to systems like DnD and Pathfinder who already focus on groups of 4 or 5 heroes. It could make for a nice mini game to implement for warfare in campaigns

That is a cool compromise to show some units gain strength through numbers rather than individual prowess.

Hehe, yeah, basically with A units will probably be named characters who should be balanced between them. B would allow for things like "Garnak the Troll leader and his gang of goblins" where the goblins are more like generic units that have 1 attack and 1 skill or something like that. I like both ideas to be honest, I cooould try doing A but make some units like for example "Goblin Group" which counts as 2-3 units in one

When described this was I prefer choice 1. When you first brought up the idea I was envisioning it like a man commander unit that called on smaller units, like a Kobold wat chief calling in it's army. But when you sell it like 3-5 big units like a D&D party that sounds really cool, or maybe I just like D&D too much :)
