Shelter, at what cost?

The building was little more than a shed...not really a home, hard to believe anyone would've lived here. Perhaps an indication that an actual house was somewhere nearby? It didn't matter...she didn't have time or energy to keep searching, she just needed to get out of the winter wind for a moment, to stop her teeth from chattering, maybe even to stay for the night. She was hopelessly lost, and just glad to find any place she could warm up for a minute.

She scanned the small room for anything that could help with her current predicament. Draped across some of the piled-up junk was a strange scarf-like construction. Just a thick ring of knitted yarn...It looked like someone had started knitting a sweater and gave up, though the neck hole was massive. None of this was of her concern...it was the closest thing to a blanket anywhere around, so she threw it over her neck. Instantly she started feeling warmer...oddly warm.

As she stepped back and forth in place and breathed on her hands to overcome the cold, she felt a strange tingling across her body. She hoped it wasn't frostbite, or some other effect of the cold...she lifted her shirt and refused to believe what she saw: brown fur slowly emerging from her skin, blanketing a stomach that was barreling outward. She was becoming hairier and fatter all at once...in shock, she stumbled backward over a bundle of wood, kicking out with legs growing thicker and thinner in all the wrong places. Her pants bunched up and fell to the floor, and her shoes slipped from what used to be her feet, revealing that she now had cloven hooves...they looked like deer hooves. Groaning, she clutched at her chest, feeling it roiling and shifting unnaturally...she tore off her shirt to find her breasts sliding down her torso, changing, morphing into animalistic teats which settled at her crotch. She felt dizzy, woozy...her head was heavy, too heavy...she reached up and felt her keratinous fingers clack against a growing set of antlers. This was a dream, it had to be a dream, a nightmare...

She tumbled to the floor, finding herself standing on four hooves. She watched cross-eyed as her nose pushed out, dominating her field of vision, extending into a snout...the last part of her not yet covered in fur. It had all happened so quickly...now a confused reindeer occupied the space where a woman once stood...but at least she was marginally warmer...
