Gundam Build Fighters - Episode 1

Wait, gundam is about gaming?

Leave it to a musician to pinpoint the composer. That is indeed the same composer from My Hero Academia, Yuuki Hayashi. Also yes the majority of Gundam shows are space operas with warring factions. There are exceptions such as G Gundam which is about how the space colonies based on countries have reached an agreement on who will rule space and earth through doing Gundam fight tournaments every 4 years. So the majority of main gundams throughout the franchise share the same color palette of red, white, blue, and yellow. So a lot of them might seem similar to each other if this is your first time witnessing them. So the gundam Sei's dad was piloting was the OG gundam, model RX-78-2. Thats the one you will typically see everywhere including as a skin in the call of duty warzone game and in a scene in the Ready Player One movie. Sei's gunpla is a customized version of the GAT-X105 Strike Gundam from Gundam SEED. None of this information really matters to enjoy the show that is about cool gunplas fighting it out. For instance, the old man in the store who is a regular customer named Ral is based on Rumba Ral from the very first Gundam show/manga. He was from the Zeon faction who were enemies of the federation who the main character Amuro and the RX-78-2 were sided on. The reason he is being referenced in this show is because he is considered to be an awesome character. Even though he was an enemy, he followed the rules of engagement and was extremely honorable to both his enemies and his men. Basically he was a good guy who happened to be on the wrong side. One last thing on my wall of text. There are melee Gundams out there. The G Gundam show I mentioned, the main character had weaponized hands/fists and used beam sabers. In fact the sequel show to Gundam Build Fighters, Gundam Build Fighters Try, uses that Gundam as the base for the main gunpla of that show.
