That was my experience at Harvard, way back. Thank God, you are learning on you own. You have to.

Antonio Primavera

Dunno if anyone will read this comment, but I wanted to say that Herbert Ross gets slagged a few times, but I'm sorry, he was a terrific journeyman director. Maybe not an artist, but a real talent, with a gift for comedy--PLAY IT AGAIN SAM, MY BLUE HEAVEN, THE LONELY GUY and his Neil Simon films are all wonderful. He did THE LAST OF SHEILA and THE SEVEN PERCENT SOLUTION! And he could've made CHINATOWN bleak, because he helmed PENNIES FROM HEAVEN, one of the bleakest films of its time, and beautifully crafted.

Mark Schatzberg

Is Sam wasson related to Craig Wasson ? Is it true that Craig Wasson punched Wes Craven in the face during Nightmare 3?

“The Big Goodbye” is one of the best books written about the making of any film. Drop what the hell you’re reading and read this book.

Eric M. Rhein

This was one of the best episodes. I wished the conversation at the end about moving away from the art to the artist had gone on for at least another hour. I'm in college studying literature and it's impossible to learn anything about craftsmanship and art outside of its impact on the author's identity. I gotta do all the real learning on my own. Would love to hear more on the subject from these two.

Mike Brand

Would love Bret's reflection on Fellini's Satyricon. Curious what his take would be.

Great show Brett! Would love to hear your thoughts on Tiger King

Great podcast. A fine spoken-word essay at the top, followed by a wonderful interview. And I couldn’t agree more re: your and Sam’s (implied) belief that movies, at their best, are more rewarding — more satisfying — more resonant ... than even the finest longform TV dramas. It’s really no contest.

Ugh, I’m jonseing for the next episode!

Todd

Starting reading Sam's Fosse after listening - nearly done and it's terrific.
