Comments
I found the remake of Suspiria slightly unsatisfying when I first watched it, but it really stayed with me. I've rewatched it and it's since become one of my favourite films. The dance sequence, Mia Goth, the voting, the overall sadness of the film - I think it will be considered a classic in twenty years' time.

2025-08-10 13:15:27 +0000 UTCCatching up on old episodes. This is a great interview. I would have loved to see The Follower get made. Sadly, it didn’t, and now You kind of came along and stole its thunder.

2022-02-14 22:55:38 +0000 UTCBrett, is your circle of film geeks entirely straight white guys? Every female and/or queer person who has seen it I know has recognized Suspiria as a crazy-ass masterpiece. Why I am not shocked you don't get it?

2019-04-29 20:37:47 +0000 UTCBret have you seen Lee Chang Dong's other films? Burning was made for western audiences and got rave reviews in Europe and USA... but it pretty much got an eye roll in S. Korea. It might have sold lots of tickets when it first came out (as you say) I actually saw it 4 times here in korea... but it passed through pretty fast, and most people I talked to thought it was disappointing, compared to his other truly incredible films. He is a great writer, so I like it when he writes his own stories. Still, Burning is better than most out there

2018-12-18 19:15:38 +0000 UTCReally? I thought it was great. So did everyone I know. I felt the lead actor’s cold, remote approach to the character was a “take” on a battle hardened soldier with PTSD. I didn’t read him as lacking charisma. It felt intentional to me. It’s nominated for a Golden Globe for best drama. Are we all wrong?

2018-12-14 14:48:30 +0000 UTCBrett are you f u cking joking about The Bodyguard? It’s the absolute worst middle of the road thriller I’ve ever seen in my life. I mean it makes Sunset Beach look like The Godfather. The lead actor has the charisma of my 92 year old grandfathers penis. It’s absolute tosh. Man, come on. No. No. No. I mean no. No. No.

2018-12-04 19:14:47 +0000 UTCYou're welcome @Joakim. They changed the music shifting the program and invalidating my original programme, so it was deleted.

2018-11-29 13:24:56 +0000 UTCThanks @Brent Minder for the timestamp. For Bret, or his editor, can you please include the time stamps / chapters in the episode itself? Podcast players support it and it would be great to have for longer episodes.

2018-11-22 00:00:14 +0000 UTCThere is something, not possible to speak out, from a genuine actor who Acts so the limit/border between acting and for real come out. Also look at Stanly Kubrick, how he pushed them more and more and more, and doesnt its gets under your skin? Profit have killed cinema. Profit makes people do less.

2018-11-17 22:22:27 +0000 UTCThe reason is because modern movies have lost acting, the art of act. We need to talk more about older movies, where they story and rolesetting and actors Acted! Netflix series etc has just the effect of fast-food, it becomes personal, and we dont need anything else then a small personal connection and we follow them. Our most important Role is to educated and show the smart phone generations old classics.

2018-11-17 22:18:58 +0000 UTCGreat podcast episode! For anyone who has amazon prime, a few classic "gritty NYC" movies are on right now: Klute (Alan Pakula 1971) Fame (Alan Parker, 1980) The Hunger (Tony Scott, 1983, with Bowie!) 9 1/2 weeks (Adrian Lyne, 1986)
