2024-10-03 02:13:08 +0000 UTCJesus wow. I started this interview last night and stopped it pretty early on. I bought “Death on Her Hands,” and I read it that evening and finished it this morning. I’m cleaning and put the Podcast back on and that segment about how Jean Stein impacted Ottessa’s life and then being blindsided by how that story ended informed Vesta’s story so much for me. Great episode, so amazing.

2018-10-05 03:06:53 +0000 UTCLoved the selection from the new book. Those girls laughing in the bar on 9/11. Damn. Brilliant idea: How about gold and platinum members get advanced copies?

2018-10-04 20:39:53 +0000 UTCReally enjoyed these last 2 podcasts, featuring novelists Ottessa and Rachel. Much as I love all the movie/tv discussions, it's clear from these two guests that the novel ain't dead yet! I also like hearing BEE's thoughts about contemporary fiction.

2018-10-04 18:10:40 +0000 UTCOttessa Moshfegh is always interesting. I can’t think of any other writer who has a public persona as strong and distinct as hers. I love her even (especially) when she’s pissing me off.

2018-10-04 18:10:08 +0000 UTCI’ll be honest I don't think Terry Crews' #MeToo is as ridiculous as this podcast says it is. The basic idea is he was at a work function and a senior-level executive grabbed his dick in front of his wife and he rightly felt humiliated. How is that not universally recognized as being an unacceptable way to behave at a business function? I don't work in Hollywood but that would NEVER be okay in my industry. I'm sorry but I don't have a problem with people like the senior level executive being publicly exposed. I'm sure there are thousands of people that would love his job that don't sexually humiliate others.

2018-10-04 09:02:32 +0000 UTCPoint taken regarding #meetoo. However, although you’re correct that we should not overreact to Judge Kavanaugh’s actions when he drunkenly pinned a woman down 30 years ago. Should we care that he lied and mischaracterized his past behavior again and again during his hearing? Kavanaugh is not a rapist, but he was an immature young douchebag. I believe he should have owned up to his past immaturity and told the truth. He should now be disqualified and pay the consequences for his present behavior. Don’t you think?
