Painkiller Already #419

Hola. Merry Post Christmas and Pre New Years Eve Eve to you all again. PKA has no guest this week as everyone is out of town and off work for the holidays this week, so it's just the guys laid back and having fun.

Many of you will be pleased to know the show was recorded over Discord this week. A lot of you don't know this, but well before the Destiny episode of PKA (that got everyone saying move to Discord) we'd been working on testing and using dedicated video channels (not group video messages) on Discord, there's some source code out there that people have got that allows you to do this and diagnosing the stability issues around that since it's not a fully tested & pushed live feature on Discord. We were seeing if there were ways to resolve those stability issues in our troubleshooting (for a 4 hour show like PKA it'd be a problem, crashing/signing out of Discord, etc), sadly there wasn't a solution as of right now to insure stability and allow guests in.

So we're just doing the standard group video messaging Discord has, which is fine and we've tested it with guests familiar and unfamiliar with Discord (one of the bigger issues, since everyone and their mother from age 5 to 65 knows Skype & has it preinstalled on Windows). We figure as of right now, this should 100% work moving forward (and we're continuing to test the dedicated video channels as we have been), no matter the guest, and if there are problems or guests just can't figure it out, then we'll go back to Skype for one off episodes like that.

Hopefully this transition translates into an improvement in the audio and video quality of the show (we also moved to 16:9 format videos obviously). Don't think some of us don't care about the show, moving to Discord has been an active thing for a long time now, in addition moving all of us to have an active social media presence on Discord, which we'll talk more about next week on January 1st.
