2024-11-15 16:36:24 +0000 UTCRe: Needing to make a bunch of rolls with advantage or disadvantage: My daily driver dice bag has a bunch of sets of dice in it, but those sets are in pairs. 2 red sets, 2 purple, 2 green, 2 blue, 2 yellow, etc. so I can roll all of my dice at once and quickly match them into pairs. This also works when I'm DMing and I need to make a bunch of attacks at once against multiple PCs because my players have all associated their characters with a main accent color that I use to paint the base of their minis and for the border of VTT tokens.

Video tapes naturally fall in more or less the same category…. Oh late 90s, we didn’t know what we had until it was gone 🥺🥹🥲

When I gm for conventions/beginners, I have a lazy-susan of labelled kids' paint pots in the centre of the table where the dice are organised by both number *and* colour. So all the d20s are green, d12s are pink, d6s are red etc. etc. It is very practical and also deeply satisfying at the same time. I have also amassed this collection in a stupidly short space of time.

I bought a handful of translucent chessex die sets for a Saga Edition SW game in '09 (I was the DM & no-one played TTRPGs then or had dice in my group); but every other die set I've gotten since has been a gift & try to use them with the folks who've gotten them for me.

Where I live barley anyone knows them(and the ones that do are because of me) it's not a big deal but it felt nice to be like hey there are some people out there who nerd out on stories and even have similar tastes in music. It was just a feeling of "Hey it's my people!" That I just wanted to share that the top of episode message was received and want to share some of the warmth this space brings. Thanks to everyone for creating such a wonderful space. Happy to be beside the fireside!

2024-11-12 18:35:53 +0000 UTCOn the subject of mutual aid, I would reccomend avoiding Salvation Army if possible as they have a p nasty track record when it comes to serving the queer community. Given that, I worry that recent events will empower them to return to their more blatant discriminatory antics of the past, particularly in areas where they are still the primary non-governmental provider of social services. Unfortunately, they’re the largest provider of such services in the US at large although a number of major cities have since the 2000’s, explicitly dissolved relationships w/ the Salvation Army that had them acting as the primary provider of such services/receiver of related government funds. But if you are outside of a major city and Salvation Army is the primary local provider of social services, I suggest seeking out smaller local non-profits instead!

2024-11-12 16:05:01 +0000 UTCokay last thought but for the folks looking to link up with mutual aid groups (in response to the question), another great way of finding folks to join is to go where the people are! maybe that seems super obvious and you’re already doing that and i know it can feel awkward to just rock up and start meeting folks but people are usually really welcoming and happy to meet people looking for community. values-aligned/driven book stores, authors talks, shelters, community centers, cafes, seminars, different venues where folks perform and then plug their socials or orgs that they work with and work they’re supporting. (just like this pod!) and just getting to know your neighbors if you aren’t already

Taylor is a mad genius and I can't listen to the show without high quality ear buds on, my appreciation of music and soundscape has gone through the roof because of the man. I just think the entire crew is more talented then 95% of Hollywood, truly amazing talent all around. I started listening about 6 months ago? Can't believe I'm all caught up, listened to every ep and fireside. Will go back and listen to all the other great bonus content i.e County Affair, etc. Little sad, but grateful to have found this.

Barbara Rosenblat read the Amelia Peabody mysteries so well that my mom would go outside those series if she found another Rosenblat-read audiobook at the library. And I'll tell ya what: Rosenblat absolutely deserved it. The voices she could conjure, the *acting*, the pacing of the narration? A good audiobook reader is worth their weight in gold, for SURE.
