I really enjoyed this episode. I agree that they didn't need the kidnapping storyline, but I'm not entirely mad at it. However I think it all depends on how it plays out. I know at the time I first watched the episode, I was as unsure as you are. But once I watched Episode 7 I understood why they did it.
