2025-03-29 16:04:06 +0000 UTCThere's something really sort of eerie about people that double down on what use to be their more casual conservative outlook and turn it into nazi rage content slop for clicks. You're totally right that they'll like, float away from that when it's not big or popular anymore like they don't hold themselves to any standards or actual beliefs. This loop of souless content to feed the masses for 5 minutes at a time, numb their empathy a little further and be done with it really emotionally shakes me more than I feel like a lot of other people I talk to can relate to. So yea really appreciate hearing someone put that into words better than I'm able to lol x

2025-03-29 05:42:20 +0000 UTCThere's a great video by Accented Cinema that's called "Why The Fast and Furious is so popular in China". It delves into how long shifts are there and how underpayed most of the population is, and how, on the occasions where they can actually go watch a movie, people for the most part want something very digestible, a fun escape. And that applies 100% to my country too lol, most of us work 50-60 hours a week, it's hard to have the energy to consume meaningful art, and it's not an excuse but when we get "happy boxes" in our hands just like in Fahrenheit 451, it's easier to scroll on dumb shit on instagram than pull up a book or listen to political critique, then like you said all media creators have to follow a set of rules to succeed and in the process feed the slop machine, or the slightly more nutritious slop dispenser. It's kind of a vicious cycle. Thanks for the ep, it's definitely something that we all should at least think of and talk about more.
