The Book of Annwyn - "BoA Battle Test 2" - March 2025

Had a super busy February, sorry I’m so late with a post!

Between a week long visit from the in-laws and the yearly crunch around Valentines from my day job, I found myself stretched very thin for time to work on anything.

Not wanting to leave you guys too high and dry, I managed to finish up a new battle test for The Book of Annwyn. Building off of feedback from the first test, I’ve adjusted the battle system to further emphasize the strengths of the original system while curbing some of its more chaotic elements. I’d appreciate it if you could give it a playtest and see what you think! I’m pretty happy with it this time, and depending on feedback we receive this is probably the version of the combat we’re going for in the full project.

Also, keep the stat and element reference sheet handy (attached to this post). You might find it useful when going through the test!

Note on installation for ANDROID users:

RPG Maker MV is an old engine with deprecated support for the Android platform. I have included a download for Android in the project folder, but I would highly recommend against using this version if you can avoid it. The engine functions on Android through an emulator, and it’s far from ideal in functionality. If you are still determined to give it a try on Android, here are the steps I took to get it running:

1. Download “Maldives Player” from the Google Play store:

2. Download “BoA Battle System Test 2 – Android” from the downloads folder below.

3. Unzip “BoA Battle System Test 2 – Android” and move the game folder somewhere other than your Downloads folder in your Android device (this is required to bypass Android’s stringent permissions system).

4. Launch “Maldives Player” and follow the in-app instructions to add the “BoA Battle System Test 2” folder to its directory.

5. Run “BoA Battle System Test 2” through “Maldives Player” with default settings.

6. (Your mileage may vary step) Tap on the small “+” sign at the bottom of the screen to activate the D-Pad and Controller buttons.
Press Z to interact, X to cancel, hold Left Shift to run
