CG C118: Miststrike
Added 2024-09-07 12:46:05 +0000 UTCWould you like to craft your weapon?
Kai, who had returned from the marketplace and was now standing alone in his quarters, smiled. "Yes.”
Bring out the materials.
Nodding, Kai reached into his storage ring and one by one, he pulled out the materials he had gathered from the marketplace. The Azure Mist Pine, Misty River Steel, Silver Serpent Tendon, Medium Water Elemental Crystal Shard, Rune of Swift Strikes, and Spirit Silk all appeared before him.
The Thunder Tigress corpse and the Roach Carapace... I should add those too.
He reached into his storage ring once more, pulling out the remains of the spirit beast he'd defeated what seemed like a lifetime ago and the tough carapace of the monstrous roach. As soon as he placed them with the other materials, a new message appeared.
Analyzing additional materials...
Thunder Tigress Corpse breakdown:
- Thunder-Infused Bone: Rare material, enhances lightning affinity
- Storm Fur: Uncommon material, increases agility
- Lightning Heart: Very Rare material, boosts electrical conductivity
Roach Carapace:
- Reinforced Chitin: Rare material, increases durability
These could really take my weapon to the next level.
The following combinations are available to enhance your weapon:
- Thunder-Infused Bone + Lightning Heart: 10% chance to stun opponents on hit
- Thunder-Infused Bone + Azure Mist Pine: Generates a small thundercloud when swung at high speeds
- Lightning Heart + Water Elemental Crystal: Imbues strikes with electrified water, dealing 5% damage
- Reinforced Chitin + Misty River Steel: Weapon regenerates minor damage over time
- Storm Fur + Silver Serpent Tendon: Increases weapon flexibility, allowing for unpredictable strikes
- Storm Fur + Spirit Silk: Improves grip and +10% attack speed
- Reinforced Chitin + Rune of Swift Strikes: Improves overall weapon durability by 10% without sacrificing speed
Please select three desired enhancements.
Kai pondered his options, weighing each combination against his fighting style and needs. The lightning stun could be a game-changer in close combat. The attack speed boost aligns perfectly with my build. And that regeneration... that could be incredibly useful in prolonged battles, not to mention saving me some spirit stones.
After a few moments, Kai made his choice. "I'll go with options 1, 4, and 6.”
Confirmed. Place the materials in their designated slots.
A new window appeared on the floor, showing empty slots for each component. Kai carefully placed each item into its corresponding slot, making sure everything was aligned correctly. As he inserted the last piece, the window glowed brightly.
All materials in place. Ready to begin crafting. Would you like to proceed?
Kai took a deep breath, "Craft," he commanded.
The window changed, displaying a progress bar. Kai watched intently as it began to fill, the materials before him starting to glow and levitate slightly off the ground.
Kai knew there was a chance of failure with rare items like these, and the consequences could be severe. Losing these precious materials would be a waste of spirit stones and a significant setback.
The progress bar crawled forward, seeming to slow down as it neared completion. Kai held his breath, his eyes fixed on the blue Azure Mist Pine and Misty River Steel as they started moving around each other, like they were mixing together. The Silver Serpent Tendon wrapped around everything, holding it all in place.
The Water Element Crystal Shard glowed really bright, making the whole thing look watery. The speed rune lit up with a golden glow before it disappeared into the weapon. The Spirit Silk wrapped itself around the handle, making it look like it would fit Kai's hand perfectly.
As Kai watched, the tiger and roach parts started joining in too. Lightning bolts zapped all over the weapon, and a shimmery look formed around the roach shell.
It’s pretty awesome to see it all come together like that.
Finally, with a bright flash of light, the progress bar filled completely.
Crafting successful!
Kai let out a sigh of relief. Then, another message appeared.
As this is your first crafted weapon and intended to be your primary armament, it has been imbued with the unique ability to level up alongside you.
Nice, Kai thought, a grin spreading across his face. That'll save me from having to replace it anytime soon.
You have gained 1000 XP for creating your first weapon.
The weapon, still glowing with a soft golden light, floated in the air before Kai. He leaned in, eager to see the fruits of his labor.

Kai's eyes widened as he read through the weapon's stats and abilities. This... this is pretty incredible.
The golden glow faded, and the staff began to fall. Kai's right hand shot out, catching it effortlessly. He twirled it experimentally. The grip molded to his hand as if it had been made for him alone.
Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
With a thought, Kai activated the blade. The Misty River Steel looked sharp enough to slice through stone. As he channeled a bit of qi into the weapon, a faint blue aura surrounded the blade, and tiny droplets of water began to form along its length.
He gave it a few practice swings, the blade leaving trails of mist in its wake. A wide smile spread across Kai's face as he deactivated the blade and stored the staff in his ring.
Time to test this baby out.
***
The sun hung low in the sky as Kai stood at the center of his personal training area. Before him, arranged in a loose semicircle, stood the other members of his guild: Chen Wei, Liu Wei, and Zhi-Zhi.
Kai's gaze swept over his companions, assessing their progress since he'd last seen them. Chen Wei stood a little straighter, his qi noticeably stronger - he'd finally broken through to Qi Refining Stage 8. Liu Wei's aura wasn’t far behind, it seems he has made another breakthrough and entered Stage 7 of the Qi Refining Realm.
But it was Zhi-Zhi who truly caught Kai's attention. The spirit tortoise's qi flickered and surged, dancing on the very edge between peak Qi Refining and Foundation Establishment.
Good, he should enter the Foundation Establishment realm before the war.
Zhi-Zhi met Kai's gaze, "Why have you called me here? Master Cang is preparing the materials for my breakthrough as we speak."
Kai smiled, a hint of mischief in his eyes. "Don't worry, Zhi-Zhi. This won't take too long. Consider it a warm-up for your breakthrough."
The spirit tortoise's eyes narrowed slightly, but he nodded in acceptance.
Kai addressed the group, his voice taking on a more serious tone. "As you all know, war is coming. We need to be prepared for anything. That's why I've called you here today for some battle training."
As he finished speaking, Miststrike materialised in his hand and Kai gave it an experimental swing, the blade whistling through the air. "It'll also be a good opportunity for me to try out my new toy."
Chen Wei's eyes widened in surprise. "Senior Brother," he sputtered, "how... how did you craft it so quickly? We only brought back the materials a few hours ago!"
Kai just gave him a mysterious smile. "A good cultivator never reveals all his secrets," he said with a wink.
Liu Wei leaned forward, his eyes fixed on Miststrike. "It's beautiful," he murmured. "What can it do?"
"Oh, you'll find out soon enough," Kai replied, his grin widening. "Now, here's how this is going to work. It's going to be the three of you against me."
Zhi-Zhi's head retracted slightly into his shell. "Three against one? But even with your new weapon, surely that's not-"
"Fair?" Kai finished for him. "Oh, I think you'll find it's plenty fair. In fact..." He paused, letting the tension build. "I want you all to come at me with everything you've got. No holding back."
Chen Wei and Liu Wei exchanged nervous glances. Even Zhi-Zhi, usually so proud, looked uncertain.
"Senior Brother," Chen Wei began hesitantly, "are you sure about this? We don't want to-"
"To what? Hurt me?" Kai laughed, but there was an edge to it. "Chen Wei, Liu Wei, Zhi-Zhi... you're my guild members, my companions. But you're also cultivators. And cultivators must be ready for anything."
He twirled Miststrike, the blade leaving faint trails of mist in its wake. "Out there, in the real world, our enemies won't hold back. They won't show mercy. If we want to survive, if we want to thrive, we need to push ourselves to the limit and beyond."
Kai's eyes hardened, his voice taking on a tone that none of them had heard before. "So here's what I want from you. I want you to forget, just for a moment, that I'm your senior, your guild leader, your friend. I want you to look at me and see only an enemy.”
He spread his arms wide, "Come at me with everything you have. Every technique, every trick, every ounce of power. Work together, coordinate your attacks. Do whatever it takes to bring me down."
The three guild members stared at Kai, a mix of emotions playing across their faces. Uncertainty, fear, but also... excitement. The thrill of a true challenge.
"But Master," Liu Wei spoke up, his voice quavering slightly, "what if we actually hurt you?"
Kai's smile turned predatory. "Oh, I wouldn't worry about that. Worry about yourselves." He settled into a fighting stance, Miststrike held at the ready. "Now, are you ready to begin?"
Chen Wei swallowed hard, then nodded. He dropped into his own stance, the earth around his feet trembling slightly as he called upon his 'Golem's Stance' cultivation method.
Liu Wei took a deep breath, his body seeming to shimmer as he tapped into 'The Wind Rider's Path'. A gentle breeze began to swirl around him.
Zhi-Zhi, after a moment's hesitation, emerged fully from his shell.
Kai nodded approvingly. "Good. You're taking this seriously. But remember..." His voice dropped to a near whisper. "Aim to kill."
Author's Note
Sorry for the late release, I had an exam yesterday. I'll be releasing 3 chapters a week for the next 2 weeks as I have another exam in 2 weeks. After that, we'll go back to a 5 chapters (+) a week schedule!
Comments
So is that 2% bonus off of the baseline speed or does it compound? That's the difference between 10% faster at best and, uhh, 10.4%, but it's still a difference!

2024-09-08 00:45:52 +0000 UTCThe blade is hidden so the weapon is normally used as a staff. But when he wants to he can activate the blade and wield it more like a spear and even throw it. I hope that explains it

2024-09-07 17:40:38 +0000 UTCStill don't get what you mean. By spear staff hybrid .... is the blade hidden or something because otherwise it's just a spear. Gonna bug the hell out of me in otherwise fantastic novel.
