SR versus 4.16 - Carries + Simple graphics option

Download HERE.

A small patch to introduce Carry mechanic into real-time-games. You can checkout the carrying mechanic in action on the twitter.

Carrying is a mechanic which allows the player to place opponent into and out of (new) Devices. As mentioned before, Devices are not currently in versus mode so it is just something for modders to mess around with for now.

The other feature is a Simples Graphics toggle in options. This disables many effects which caused problems to players with potatoes and certain AMD graphic cards.

Also made improvements to the first person view check algorithm for when the first-person mode is enabled. More positions should be first-person viewable now.

Now to address the comments on the previous CATC v0.9 patch.

Q: Why roguelite mode?

A: As stated previously, I want to move on from CATC being the main focus and swap priorities with action games such as the upcoming Heroine Rumble II (built off you-know-what) and then Heroine Rescue Team Remake in the more distant future.

Rogue-lite mode takes less time to develop compared to a traditional persistent progression mode. The aim was to implement most if not all the features and mechanics required in a rogue-lite mode and then put development priority on Heroine Rumble II and beyond. Then "backport" new enemies, effects, grabs, outfits, etc to CATC.

If players want persistent progression back to CATC that badly, I can do that, such as adding retreating option during a run. However, this will NOT change the overall plan to swap priorities around. CATC was originally supposed to be a quick title, something to play with while I sort things out in the new engine. It has served that purpose well, and the real-time-game prototypes such as this one proves that it is more than ready to move onwards to action game titles. I am not going to stop on CATC completely though, but the priority swap meant the new features will come slower into CATC.

Q: Work on HRT?

A: Yes in the future. In the short term I want to finish up Heroine Rumble II first. In particular I want to add a Career mode which will feature persistent progression to pick up that area which was removed in CATC. The Career mode will also mark the transition point from SR to HRII.

There will probably be more prototypes as well. In particular I definitely want to expand on the beat-em-up prototype. As it's group fight oriented nature serves as an excellent precursor to HRT.

Q: CATC too hard?

A: Yes there are balancing issues, both on the enemy side and player side. Some of the new floor enemies are over tuned and needs to be brought down. On the player side of things, the party-member recruitment is very very strong and its possible to acquire a player army and snowball out of control. I am working on a patch to address those issues.

On the other hand, if the complaint is that the general game is too hard, then that's another reason I want to move on from CATC. Understandably, not everyone has the patience for a strategy H-game. This is not helped by the fact that the vast majority of H-game titles are straight forward and trivial, whereas CATC is not. If you are part of this camp, I ask for you patience and I hope you get more enjoyment out of the upcoming action-titles.
