Way worse! Would it surprise you to learn that a) the reverberations of what Cromwell did in the 17th century are still felt to this day and b) he's not really someone you learn much about in school? We presume this is shocking.

I was listening to the episode about "Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em" and Nate brought up that "Love Thy Neighbor" is basically "All in The Family." I would be interested in how Nate & Milo would think about failures in cultural adaptation in the anglosphere.

2024-11-02 20:21:58 +0000 UTCI went to a Jesuit high school in the US, and they only obliquely touched on Cromwell’s atrocities. On the other hand part of the core curriculum was a year-long course in “British literature”. (Latin was optional, though, as an alternative to French, Spanish, [IIRC] German, or, for the absolute sickos, Ancient Greek. Oddly I don’t remember Italian or Polish being options, but going from Latin to Italian is relatively easy as far as these things go.)
