Legal Tip: Always Incriminate Yourself by Email feat. Gareth Dennis
Added 2024-09-07 09:16:33 +0000 UTC
For this week's (sadly belated) bonus, we speak with friend of the show Gareth Dennis about his ordeal at the hands of British railway consultants who definitely understand the legal system, but also about the ongoing safety concerns at Euston Station, and in the UK more generally. Have you ever taken a train from Euston? Did you also fear for your life? Then perhaps this episode will explain some things.

I had personally considered it but I just had this mental barrier. I wish I'd gone for it way back in the day. No-one around me was even talking about it. If I'd known then what I know now I would have been over the channel like a whippet.

I think you got a plop of AI disinfo regarding Citadel moving back to Chicago; first of all, good riddance, second, he's building a 54 story cock sculpture building in Miami for their headquarters. Hed never come back as the Republicans in this state are mainly non fascist centrists adapted to IL specifically & do not fit in with the rest of the current Republican deep dive into civil war promotion, of which Kkken Griffin wants to shoot the first bullet for & then hide behind his billions & giant cock sculpture that will soon be a floating lighthouse in the middle of the sea....

The biggest problem I can see with lumen orbit is how do they intend to radiate a datacenter amount of heat into space ?
Some braingenius didn't check why space is so cold

it's so incredibly reassuring and gratifying to hear a high profile and well respected professional engineer take the code of ethics seriously. I'm relatively early in my career and god damn is there a lot of pressure from employers and non-engineering coworkers to ignore the ethics and just look at the bottom line. I feel like an idiot sometimes making problems at work because something isn't as good as it should be or has the potential to be dangerous and it makes me feel so much better to know it's not just me.

Since I started working in London 2 years ago and commuting to Euston every day I've been saying that I'm certain the way I am going to die is in a crush at that station so this episode is definitely for me.

You know you're missing out on a trick by not keeping Gareth anonymous while instead communicating his points through melodramatic riddles like "Q" in qanon but for British trains. I dunno, maybe something like -
"THINK. Don't let them MANIPULATE you. Houston hides the answers. How many people is TOO many people? In a TRAIN?? Throw off your chains. A tower sinks in flames. Health and safety shunned making way for sick quarterly gains. Loyalty cards from Wikipedia. Nothing to see here. Sleep."

Allergen safety in the food and beverage industry is another area where there is no culture of safety and a fixation on minimum standards, until somebody dies, and then standards are raised ever so slightly, people tick their boxes and then we wait until the next death
