It radicalized me, both because i didn't realize that the majority of what i'd be doing would be keeping homeless people from stealing things they clearly needed (food, tents, etc) but also because at least once or twice a week i went into situations where i didn't know if the person i was going to be speaking to (aggressive, stalking an employee, in a mental health crisis, o) had a weapon or whether they might want to attack. And for the reasons you listed we couldn't have weapons or do anything wild. So you know what we were trained/learned to do? deescalate shit. The police have NO excuse.

Aside from me, they were the only person deeply suspicious of their trustee who eventually ended up getting arrested for comically large wire fraud.
