2023-10-13 22:18:24 +0000 UTCTo answer Rocz' question "who gets more left wing in office?" the funniest example I can think of is Juan Velasco Alverado, who led a coup in Peru in 68, and everyone was expecting this ludicrous fascist rule, and instead they did a major programme of land reforms and nationalisation of oil and mineral assets as well as the banks, effectively ending the status quo of serfs and landowners and setting the country up as a social democracy. Lots of that got rolled back by his successor and Fujimoto, and Abimael Guzman continued to be the worst, most annoying Maoist ever with the shining path.
