Added 2021-12-09 00:02:00 +0000 UTCAmelia Horgan, author of Lost in Work and striking member of the UK’s higher education Union (UCU) talks about the decade of strikes in the sector, and why the demands are connected to a top level reimagining of what education can be. But first, we look at a few apparently unrelated goings on in Britain and peer into our scrying bowl to look at the outlines of this country’s political future.

I appreciate it a lot that you cover the land rover assaults for what they are. It's really a pattern that is developing at an incredibly rapid clip that car drivers are going agaisnt protestors, union picket lines, and just regular shmoes on the street and have the full and unconditionnal support of the state. The prosecution is almost always weak to nonexistent, and laws are getting passed to unambiguously exonerate the drivers in conditions so ill defined that they border on an unlimited licence to kill. And of course cases of legitimate defense against drivers who commit unprovoked revanchist assault systematically end up putting the pedestrian in jail.
