This follow-up continues where Part 1 left off, covering the downstream stages of production now that the Trooper’s sculpt is complete.
Here, we’ll follow the asset through retopology, texturing, rigging, and porting into XCOM 2, showing how the high-poly model is transformed into a fully playable in-game unit. Expect some progress shots from these phases as the Trooper makes the leap from digital sculpt to battle-ready Advent soldier.
We’ve reached the final sculpt stage for the Advent Trooper. From here the model moves into retopology, texturing, and rigging before being ported into XCOM 2 for in-engine testing.


The texture phase is well under way and we've edited the ribcage and thighs to be fuller, to bring them more in line with the concept model's proportions.

The texture phase is nearing its end, and the model is starting to take on its final appearance! This lighting makes it look grey, but it's being colored to match the vanilla trooper. Shown is the SFW+ model, a bonus freebie for the community, added to Hoggy's Steam edition lineup.

Here you can see the final rendition of the "SFW+" model type. The mesh and its textures are finished, and we are now working on finalizing the other model types to get the release ready.

Here's a view of the SFW model with the vanilla helmet, which is the helmet enemies will use in-game, with the concept helmet reserved for soldier cosmetics.
