Commission WIP: Princess Serenity (Part 2)

For my art post this month, I'll be continuing my progress on this commission of Princess Serenity from Sailor Moon! Here's Part 1.

Oh, and before anything - I think I'll tentatively open for commissions now that I don't have a job and I'm waiting on Sugarplum Cafe feedback before continuing work on the game. I'll still take them on a case by case basis (i.e. it depends on the subject), but I'm more likely to accept commissions with fashionable girls. In the last post, we stopped at the lineart stage:

 And then I roughly added colors to get a sense of what the color scheme would be. Color palettes are my weakness, but I'm pretty happy with the palette I chose of purple, pink, and white gradients.

I couldn't help but want to add a few more curlicues, so I decided to add some floral filigree on the house just to improve the composition.

I showed this to the client for a second opinion, and she loved the idea - but requested that the flowers not be roses (too overused) and instead moonflowers. I was totally fine with that!

So here's the coloring finished (the blending is less scribbly in places) and the moonflower filigree done. I wasn't loving the background color I chose in the last one, and after toying with many ideas I settled on another gradient. (Textures are carrying this piece hard and I have no issues with that.)

But one thing I felt bad about was that the client had originally reached out to me because she loved my tarot/filigree border commissions, like these ones. While I liked the current composition, I felt like I should still include the tarot theme somehow to honor her request. So tune in for next month's post as I work this illustration into a tarot card!
