AltStore 2.0rc2 + AltServer 1.7.2b

We're here again today with another update for y’all!

We know it’s been a while since we’ve worked on the good ol’ classic version of AltStore and that a few things got a little out of date while we worked on PAL - but we’ve now brought the (World) version of AltStore up to speed 🏎️ In preparation for iOS 18, we are releasing AltStore 2.0rc2, which addresses a few bugs introduced during the iOS 18 betas and also includes a few key changes featured in AltStore PAL such as distributing free Patreon apps and improved permission checking. Not only that but on the computer side of things, AltServer is also getting an update today for both macOS and Windows that will fix a few additional iOS 18 issues

We'll be watching out the next couple of weeks to see that everything is working properly following the official release of iOS 18, so be sure to let us know if you run into any issues! We’ve got even more on the way for you very soon, so stay tuned 😊

Installation Instructions

AltStore

If you’re already using the AltStore beta, you can try updating to this version from the My Apps tab. Alternatively, you can manually update AltStore by reinstalling it with the appropriate attached AltServer (you do not need to delete AltStore first).

If you're installing the beta for the first time, make sure to first link your Patreon account in the Settings tab and then follow these instructions.

AltServer

Download the appropriate AltServer attachment for your computer. Windows users, make sure to uninstall previous versions first before installing this one so that AltServer updates correctly.

Hello I installed the AltServer beta and when I try to install it to my iPhone, the Windows Toast comes and shortly after i get an Error "Could not install AltStore to iPhone" "The App could not be found." What can i do here? Clicking on Help gets me Error Discription The App could not be found. Failure Reason The App could not be found. and then clicking on Help I don't find anything regarding that error on the AltServer side. https://faq.altstore.io/altstore-classic/error-codes I have uninstalled the previous AltServer by running the Setup and set it to remove before installing AltServer Beta.

Yes I did. I don't think it has anything to do with the latest changes, but what I did was logged into my patreon, updated my password and connected via Email and Password and not Google on AltStore.

I’m getting the same issue with the patreon account linking, did you ever find a fix?

Anthony Buttillo

The package’s build numbers do not seem to match what you say, and some older builds seem to have newer build numbers. Can you PLEASE fix your version and build numbers, and post the actual newest builds with greatest build numbers of everything?

Alex

is this what i need to download to get altserver beta for windows?

I can’t change the Altstore app icon on iPad Pro 13 M4 on iOS 18.0.1. Appear an error said “Unable to Change App Icon - The requested operation couldn’t be completed because the feature is not supported.”

Is anyone else getting blocked when trying to refresh the Delta Beta? I tried to re-link my Patreon account but get a blank screen after I login in via Google. Currently seeing “Pledge Expired” on the beta

Thanks guys! But unfortunately I am no longer able to get into the altstore app now. I get an “unable to launch altstore” error every time I open the app.

Thank you for the reply! Security concerns absolutely take precedent, and I appreciate the roadmap you’ve set for development including that as a priority from the get-go. It’s my understanding that Apple unfortunately expects developers to request permissions they actually need, and requiring honesty from someone who could potentially intend to run malicious code on your device is just unrealistic. The option as a more experienced end-user to bypass this safety measure for non-recommended sources would be greatly appreciated, and I’d even be okay with more prompts ensuring that you’ve properly warned the user of the dangers, or even making the user enter their Apple ID password on their device as a secondary countermeasure. I again want to thank you for your excellent customer service, you both have my indefinite support on this amazing project!

Thank you for the feedback! We should clarify that this has nothing to do with regulators, or trying to get on anyone’s good side. The plan was always for AltStore 2.0 to enforce permission checking, as that’s the only way to ensure that the permissions listed in the source are accurate (otherwise malicious actors could lie about what permissions their apps have). The ability to bypass permission alerts was added temporarily as a stopgap during the beta period as a transition period, so in this last beta we finally removed that temporary code in preparation for the final launch so we could test “the real code”. That being said, we hear y’all, so we'll work on adding back the option to bypass permission alerts ASAP 🙂

Riley + Shane

UPDATE BELOW, PLEASE EXPAND COLLAPSED COMMENTS TO SEE! Riley & Shane are excellent at addressing concerns. It’s either a forced feature removal, or a proactive one to get on the good side of someone and allow their platform to be greenlit everywhere. Either way I’m disappointed the focus has switched from supporting the end user to appeasing legislators; already definitely not updating, but it’s not a good look and is making me reconsider my monthly support as well.

Leaking_Subconscious

How is removing the ability to bypass permission errors an improvement? It literally takes away functionality. I loved AltStore but I may be done supporting
