30 MORE minutes of me talking about engineering and forgetting to build a city!

i like both :)

Love this type of video. Need more story time with matt

The left snapping on when trying to upgrade the road and couldn’t get it to line up with the middle so they were like.. f reading the tutorial I’m just going with the kink and be done with it! 🤣🤣

Still watching back, not sure what's to come, but you're taking questions and opening the floor for more... You talk about a guy with 45 ish years experience who you respect for his gift with making nice roads. Who else have you encountered professionally that impressed you, especially for something... 'unconventional'? I enjoyed hearing how impressed you were if this bloke.

Get the first game and DLC if you want your moneys worth and wait for the 2nd to get more optimized and perfected further down the line.

Samuel

Hey Matt Loving the content I just have a question. How do you feel about the game because I really want to play it but given all the negative reviews I am a bit hesitant since it’s 50 euro and I’ve heard it requires a kinda high quality computer to play it or should i wait until it’s been updated more?

Rasmus Bang

I like the question format!

alfred box

as long as ur playing cities skylines u can yap about anything

micro dinger

I love the questions format - keep it up Matt! <3

If you want bad highway design then come to Melbourne. https://maps.app.goo.gl/ea1fwQSFde1X9mZ6A?g_st=ic A 4 lane road, two added right turn lanes with their own traffic lights, no lights for the straight through traffic. The left two straight-through lanes merge into one just before the right junction traffic merges into the fast lane with a give way. The merging traffic gets a green light, which then has to give way to the uncontrolled through traffic in the fast lane. Just before a left turn bend. You cannot see a thing. https://maps.app.goo.gl/9kg8xbhUbQ514p138?g_st=ic This is typical design. Three lane highway gains an extra straight and an uncontrolled left lane before the junction and two right lanes. Immediately after the junction all three left lanes all merge into one lane . https://maps.app.goo.gl/Y7Lrb9m8USPniurGA?g_st=ic Freeway on-ramp and a three to two lane merge over a bridge. Then the left lane diverges into two lanes immediately before the freeway off-ramp joins as a give way. Just give the off-ramp its own lane. We have already merged down to two lanes over the bridge. Melbourne roads, designed by the work experience kid who goes home early.

I've got a question if you still take them :D As a foreigner living in England, I've always been bothered by Motorway exits that take the "slow" lane out reducing the width to 2 lanes, forcing lorries and slow vehicles to change lane to the middle only for the road to become 3 lanes again after the junction. What are the advantages in doing that? I've always thought forcing people to change lanes is creating more dangerous situations and it encourages middle lane hoggers. edit: Forgot to say I love the content, it's really interesting to learn about the details going into designing infrastructure ^^

Nicolas Chemin

Again, loving the info!

Love that RCE starts talking about the worst roads he’s seen, and it’s literally the road I take to work everyday in Caerphilly, and then the better road being the lane between Barry and St Nicolas. Kinda nice having a professional opinion on my commute

Hey Matt, I absolutely loved this episode! I enjoy hearing you speak about the engineering stuff because I actually learn something :D Please continue explaining stuff to us like we are 5 haha, it's the most refreshing way to learn things, we can hear your passion and most def understand it a lot more when you are enjoying explaining :)

If you are going to answer questions, which I think everybody really appreciates, you could make the cities skylines two videos an hour long? I know this was mentioned before. Especially if you are going to post a different game every other week. After all, I believe that this game was the reason you created a Patreon. People wanted to see you take a realistic approach to playing the game. All in all, please continue the Q&A, and if you can extend the cities skylines 2 videos, we would love that. Listen to your fans man not your critics.

Noah leitner

Thanks for that great answer!!! And yes, our girl dog Winnie has a HUGE crush on Paddy 😂

Things I learned today - highway construction costs 1 metric crap tonne (or approximately 2.5 imperial tons). Very good to know - that clears things up perfectly! Sorry for all the questions 😅 Fun video as always, even if basically nothing was accomplished.

Tiki Cowboy

Castle...looks a bit flat in that view 😂

jahr

Love a bit of knowledge in the vids Matt. I'm always down for more. Come for the knob jokes, stay for the knowledge. Tell Paddy he's a good boy for me.

Onion Bubs

As to stuff that was already there when road was built - check this example from Poland: https://i0.wp.com/dobrewiadomosci.net.pl/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/drzewo31-midi.jpg 😁 the sign says “tree in the road” 😂

PawelTheBlack

Love the fact that Paddy’s YouTube page snapshot is in Dutch (I guess) 😁 cheers Schmike! You deserve at least couple of hours out of the basement 🏖️🇳🇱

PawelTheBlack

On the time it takes for roadworks: I read recently that soil cannot be compacted at a very fast rate, which can vastly increase the time it takes. Is that something you’ve experienced?

Rip McStudly

Weirdest road design I’ve seen is in Kapuskasing, Ontario Canada. It’s called Circle St and it is basically a roundabout with parking inside and outside of the route. You have to back out of the parking into traffic that is going around a circle so you can’t see the cars. Also snow is a thing… Good thing it’s not a busy area, but who thought that was a good idea.
