When I was a kid (6-7 y.o.) I found a small mp3 player on the street, that looked like a flash drive. It was Samsung YP-U5. At the time, we just got our first desktop computer then, and no one in my family knew how to use tech like this, not to mention digital security measures. But I was interested enough to figure out basics of the Windows explorer navigation and opening pre-installed games. So naturally I inserted this flash drive player (then I realised that this drive has small pixel screen as it started charging after I plugged it in the USB port of pc), and opened up the content. There was like 150mb of random music. Those songs ended up shaped my early passion to music, that I’m carrying for decades up until this moment. All those songs engraved on my child’s brain, and strangely enough, there was a couple of Akira Yamaoka tracks. Rip offs from the original SH2. I’ve listened them for so so many times as I was growing up you couldn’t even comprehend. Although I never played Silent Hill, every time my ears catch those tracks, I immediately get an insane amount of goosebumps and my brain explodes with all sorts of emotions, nostalgia, vivid pictures of the past. It is so weird, looking back, that I got my whole life shaped and kind of directed by that single flash drive mp3 player I found. And by a bunch of random artists, including Akira Yamaoka, picked by a random person and then lost only for me to find it. Like a time capsule in subnaitica lol, but the content is the legacy of someone’s great music taste.
