So now it’s time to explain Izuku’s. Izuku’s mixed species was more chosen for appearance rather than application. He’s based off of regular fish (fish not known or capable of fighting like a shark/cephalopod/whale etc) He’s a mix of a Twig catfish and a Butterfly koi (also known as a dragon carp).

Regular fish based/mixed Mer are among the weakest and most hunted species of Mer, putting them only right above normal sea creatures on the food chain. However, most have high adaptability, can live in more strenuous conditions, and have a far larger range for food.

Koi have high resistances and are very hardy. They resist many parasites, disease and infections that would kill most other animals/fish. Koi have been shown to be able to survive and break down vaccines and poisons as well. This contributes to Izuku’s ability to handle Katuski’s poisons casually.

Koi fish are also omnivores, but his Twig Catfish part enables him to consume pretty much anything and still get nutritional value from it. Twigs’s can literally eat gravel and wood and survive off that entirely without any other nutrients their whole lives. Due to this, Izuku literally can’t starve to death. This is incredibly helpful when living in the depths since he would never need to steal food from Katsuki. Since Katuski is a carnivore and easily over twice Izuku’s size, he needs to maintain his diet on much stricter level then Izuku. During the cold seasons when they lose prey due to migration, Izuku will opt out of eating any kind of meat in favor of vegetation as to not hinder his bf’s food intake 💚
