I have some important news to share with you regarding the use of Patreon through the iOS app. Apple has decided to impose a new 30% "tax" on all new subscriptions paid through the Patreon app on iOS starting in November 2024. Here's the message from Patreon about this:

"Hey,‌

Apple is requiring that Patreon use their in-app purchasing system and remove all other billing systems from the Patreon iOS app by November 2024. This means that starting in November, new memberships purchased in the iOS app will be subject to Apple's 30% App Store fee.‌

First, we want to be clear about one thing: this will not impact your existing memberships at all. Apple's App Store fee only applies to new memberships purchased in the iOS app beginning in November 2024.‌

You will have full control over how Apple's fee is applied. You can either maintain your earnings by setting a higher price for new memberships in the iOS app (default) or absorb the App Store fee yourself (not recommended). You can control how Apple's fee is applied in your settings.

You don't need to take any action to continue earning in the iOS app. By default, if you don't do anything, your tier prices displayed in the iOS app will automatically increase to offset the Apple App Store fee. Your prices on the web and the Android app will not be affected.‌

We know how much you depend on Patreon, and understand how disruptive this change is. We're working to find every possible way to give you the control and stability you deserve throughout this change. ‌

So, how can you avoid these additional fees?

For those of you considering joining or modifying your subscription, I highly recommend using the web version of Patreon. By accessing Patreon through your web browser , you can avoid this 30% surcharge. This will result in direct savings for you.

Moreover, by using the web version, there are no hidden fees or unexpected price increases!

Why is this important?

This new tax is yet another challenge for creators like myself who rely on Patreon to fund their projects. By choosing to subscribe directly through the website rather than the Patreon iOS app, you save money and also allow your favorite creators to continue offering their best work without suffering significant losses due to these new requirements.

I understand that this might disrupt the habits of some and require a bit of extra effort, but it’s a concrete way for support each other in this difficult context.
