Dan Da Dan: Ep 7

FREE EPISODE! So this was such a beautiful and depressing episode that I feel like there is going to be no way that I can cut this appropriately for YT. (I am still gonna try anyway.) So I didn't want anyone to miss out on how beautiful this was. This was EXTREMELY sad, but so perfect at the same time. Please feel free to make me feel better about enduring this storyline lol.

I still love this episode so much, I hope this wasn't the end of the reaction but if it is i enjoyed your reactions to the ones you watched :)

Virgil

are we ever getting episode 8 or season 2?

Stephanie frankson

Awesome! I Hope taking a break helped. We support you!

Joshua Schmitt

just wrapping up the other show first before I continue. Was getting overwhelmed with work

Matthew Curry

Seems that you might be struggling to continue the story. No worries if you don't, I support your decision. That said, it goes back to the wacky hijinks for the rest of the season. Also, I've caught up on the manga, and in my opinion future backstories are tragic, but are not anywhere close to the emotional gut punch in this episode.

Joshua Schmitt

Thanks for making this one free, very cool of you to do for your fans

They’ve done that a number of times in this anime- literal blink-and-you-miss-it single frames that give explanation and/or context to something that’s happening. Momo tanking these yokai hits are another one. She’s using her psychic powers as a shield, but you only see it flash for literally a frame or two. Miss it and you’d be forgiven for thinking she’s just getting railed on and surviving somehow.

Ryan

I’m not a DDD manga reader [yet] so this is just my guess off knowing general Japanese myths, but it seems like troubled souls that die are basically harmless remnants that wander around; “lost souls” I guess. But if something happens to them that gives them purpose or reignites strong emotions, their remaining power coalesces into a conscious force- a yokai.

Ryan

I cry so much every time. It really is one of the most beautifully executed episodes i have ever seen.

Noxis_Guenni _3

It took a few tries, but I was able to catch it! It's for like a couple frames so it's super easy to miss. You can catch it in this video at 28:31 if you go frame by frame right before that.

This episode is pure art and cuts deep into the human experience. Don't know if you watch other react content, but there are two excellent ones I can recommend from this episode. FlexieJayAnime and Michael Angelo both open up about their own life's story in relation to this episode and it is so heartfelt. I highly recommend if you can handle the emotional rollercoaster.

Joshua Schmitt

i’ve watched so many reactions of dandadan and ive rewatched it a couple of times just by myself. i dont think i’ll ever be able to not cry during this episode

Cayleigh

That final dance was her jumping off of a building after surviving all the glass stuff, and you can hear the thud at the end

Austin

We probably ain’t even gonna hear them say DanDaDan til like season 3

Austin

Yeah, you were right at the start! Acro silky was being shown as being a lady of the night to help pay the clothes that she bought her daughter, and pay off the guys who took her. You can also see when she's dancing in that watery place, the ledge of a building as she jumps off, and hear the thump/crunch as she hits the ground. I honestly think the anime did this scene justice.

I’ve been so excited to see your reaction to this episode specifically! I believe that Dandadan broke a record in IMDb’s history, with the highest-rated episode at a 9.7/10, with episode 7. As others have said, the anime is more censored, but it still does an excellent job bringing this tragic story to life. Acrobatic Silky was a mother overwhelmed by debt, working tirelessly at multiple jobs—serving as a prostitute (hinted by the timer on the bed and money on the nightstand), working as a janitor, and as a convenience store clerk—all to care for her only daughter, whom she loved deeply. After saving enough to buy her daughter a dress, her life took a devastating turn when debt collectors attacked her, took everything she had, and kidnapped her child to use as collateral—likely for human trafficking or organ harvesting. Desperate to save her, she chased after the van, but fell helplessly as it disappeared from sight. Consumed by despair, she performed one final, graceful dance on a rooftop before taking her life, her last thoughts filled with love for her daughter. The anime depicts this heartbreaking moment vividly, with her jump followed by the haunting sound of impact, just after her final thoughts of her child. While it’s not explicitly confirmed if her daughter was killed, the story strongly suggests it, underscored by Aira’s poignant words in both the manga and anime: "Please… Let no one hurt them. Let them be happy. Let them go to a kinder world." Though the manga presents her story with raw intensity, the anime adaptation beautifully captures her final moments with stunning visuals and a moving score. If you're enjoying the anime, I strongly recommend reading the manga—I started it after the first episode, and it’s been incredible!

Unless they change from what was seen in the manga, yes, she's unfortunately no longer alive...which is a shame in itself, but also b/c seeing her interact with the kids would have been SO cool!!

I can honestly say I cried so hard during this episode when I watched it. I wasn't prepared for this mentally and it caught me so off guard that I just started bawling. Great fucking episode.

Cali Jester

You saying "im glad nothing bad happened" like 5 seconds before Something Bad happened was really funny. Also, I read this about 2? years ago but have a bad memory so it took me until she got hugged by her child to remember how sad this was gonna be, I was already in a cry-y(?) mood before because of something i read and this fucked my day up real good. The music is sooooo good. I'm so happy how well they are adapting this weird, beautiful manga

Bela

i didnt think this episode could get even more sad...

Matthew Curry

Yeah, her ghost basically just stood right where she died. Completely lost and confused. Her death was so sudden, shocking and tragic that her soul was just completely incapable of understanding the situation. Aira noticing her basically shocked her out of her lost state but created a Yokai obsessed with her. Acro Silky basically followed Aira around until she could be noticed by Aira again

Bernie Burton

jesus, i didnt expect that timeline, the picture with her as a girl really through me off. But I guess she was just a wondering ghost until she found her?

Matthew Curry

wait, so we do know for SURE she is dead? UGH I would've loved to see her in as future episode!

Matthew Curry

Acro Silky's life took place closer to the 80s. She had been a ghost for at least 20 something years before Aira noticed her looking for her own mother.

Bernie Burton

Supposedly there’s a moment in the anime right before she jumps where you can see the edge of the roof, but even after pausing and looking at different frames, I’ve never been able to catch it. 🤷‍♀️ Even without that, they did a fantastic job of showing what was happening without crossing any censorship lines. Absolutely stunning and heartbreaking!

fluffqueen91

The memories of Acobatic Silky always get me so hard... I think the way they portrayed her death as a human was incredible. Apparently in the manga it's more clear - there's a panel of her jumping off a building. They could not exactly show this, especially in Japan and definitely not in a show for teens, so they made this incredible dance scene under the starry sky instead. Though audience can still infer as much from it if they are paying close attention - the reflective surface of the wet roof ending, then the blurred lines during the fall and finally the sound of body hitting the ground.

FaultyGear

Given what kind of people took her... it's highly possible she was trafficked afterwards and died at some point.

FaultyGear

Hi, Matt! I really enjoyed your reaction...this is definitely a rough episode and even made me cry the first time I watched it. I don't know if you caught it, but when the lady is dancing under the stars, she's actually on top of a roof until her last leap. This was greatly toned down since suicide can be considered controversial in some cultures. We also never learn exactly what happened to the little girl (I honestly don't think we WANT to know), but the manga confirms that she died shortly after she was taken. However, there's a manga panel of the girl looking basically the same as when she was taken, walking with her mom into the afterlife. A tragic story, but at least there's a bittersweet ending!

fluffqueen91

Oh man, the first time I watched this episode, I had to skip past half way through cause it just hit me so hard.
