Helluva Boss: S2 | Ep 8

ATTENTION! I am already nervous to post this here LET ALONE when it goes on YT. I am really not sure on how my thoughts will ever be perceived and I am totally fine with being wrong or misunderstanding. I talk a lot during the end, but ever more in the recap.

It is really hard to talk about this dynamic properly without someone to talk to in real time. So of course as always, if I am missing something, (or forgot, which is most likely the case) I welcome all inputs <3 I hope you enjoy the reaction as always!

Helluva Boss: S2 | Ep 8

Comments

Murder drones is pretty much a mix of helluvaboss and horror, and its like half the length of helluvaboss currently

Kali OmegaRogue she they

YES the owl house is also on the list!!

Matthew Curry

It was def gravity falls, and also digital circus are going on the polls! Ill probably do a poll on YT for what the next show will be for thursdays

Matthew Curry

Oh I forgot to point out that during the end scene, the covered thing between them is the chandelier thing they were both fascinated by when they played there as children.

Vic Lou

Yeah. It's relatable af, ngl. But, please Stolas, he was just about to say sorry.

Vic Lou

My husband and I sat in complete silence for a good minute after this ended and my first words were, “Wait, what?” The lack of communication between them… Stolas had the whole conversation worked out in his head and was likely convinced that Blitzø would say no to him. So that’s what he heard. If he’d just given Blitzø a chance to catch his breath, they might have been able to talk to out, but Stolas reacted to the perceived rejection, and that was that.

Deborah Jarvis

You should watch murder drones! another indie animated series! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mImFz8mkaHo&list=PLHovnlOusNLiJz3sm0d5i2Evwa2LDLdrg

This episode TORE ME UP. They lure you into a sense of mischief and shit but then they did the ending and fucked us up. I also wish I had someone to discuss these with back and forth. At the end scene, after I was done crying, I could see both sides. Blitz didn’t open up but Stolas did not open or approach this 100% correctly. But this whole scene was a step in the right direction. And that LINE “I think so very high of you, I didn’t think you thought so low of me.* P.S the CHERUBS and Agent 1&2 could have stayed in season 1, episode 2 and never come back. But that’s just my opinion. Also thank you so much for your reaction and recaps. Seeing how your mind works is really facinating.

Rachhh🤭

Oof, yeah. That still makes me so mad and sad for Blitz!

Mae Whitaker

This episode made me cry first time I watched it. I immediately watched the last 5 mins about 10 times. EVERYONE gave zero fs about the angels in this episode. You are not alone! Don't be nervous about sharing! I think we've still got something to find out about Blitz's past - something to do with getting messed over by a royal? I mean, his dad did sell him to Paimon for $5 and a small condom so maybe it's that. Or you could be right that the upper classes are very dismissive and use the imps and there's systemic class abuse. Very interesting. I think Stolas couldn't make the step of continuing the reciprocal conversation because he'd built it all up in his head so much and all he can see is Blitz not returning his affection rather than Blitz being genuinely surprised and confused. I think Stolas is probably oblivious to the systemic situation. Hmmm. That's very interesting, thank you for this thought. I'm going to chew it over. Please WATCH THE BTS of the song! It's so fun watching them do their thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXJRpH7t3_c

Vic Lou

Also the show you were referring??? Gravity Falls! 100% yes you should watch this! It is by far one of the top cartoon shows I've watched to date, up there with Avatar the Last Airbender. Digital circus only has 2 episodes so far so, really, you could do both :). If you're looking for another option, if you haven't already seen it, Star vs the Forces of Evil is quite good.

Lizz

You analyzed this really well. Both are technically at fault in this case but I do feel for Blitz on this case. We see a LOT of stolas and his feelings from his perspective but Blitz is kind of more of a mystery at this point with his true feeling about and towards stolas.

Lizz

I'm throwing Centaurworld into the ring for the next series! It had 2 seasons in 2021 so it's quick to get through, and it's a wonderful bright musical cartoon that is really whimsical and silly but deals with some really dark themes. It's full of Broadway singers and the lead (a horse named Horse) is voiced by Kimiko Glenn, who is Niffty in Hazbin! It's a really really special show that didn't get enough love when it came out! Here's the S1 trailer: https://youtu.be/3-_Ojrj8_yg?si=lAyLCsclpc_eWyZK

Merviking

Blitz doesn't believe Stolas loves him because he hates himself so much that doesn't think anyone could love him, especially not someone so rich and powerful like Stolas. And of course he takes all this thing like a rejection.

Chiara

I think you were describing Gravity falls? That would be a nice wholesome change after this and cyberpunk. lol

Rinnzu Rosendale

Disagree on the cherubs and dhorks part, but an excellent examination of Blitz's perspective given there.

Prise par J.A.Z.

I totally agree with you that they both need therapy. Problem is where can they get it from?

Dawn Soehren

And, seeing that other letter, with the words "Wish You Were My Son" emblazoned on. Easy to guess who that's from.

Prise par J.A.Z.

Don't be nervous, I think you did a good job of looking at both sides! I'm also with you that I couldn't care less about the angels and all that BS. I apologize in advance because this comment is stupidly long, by the way. I just wanted to give some perspective, or at least my personal interpretation of what happened in this episode, because I've thought way too much about why this conversation went so damn badly on both sides. The thing is, the animators and story writers have deliberately framed their relationship from Stolas' POV, which is why it's easier to see where he's coming from as opposed to Blitzø. We as the audience see all the little extra moments that show how much Stolas cares for Blitzø, but if you look back, the vast majority of it is for the viewer only. Blitzø himself sees very few of the sweet gestures and longing looks and doesn't hear how Stolas talks about him to others. He doesn't know the lengths Stolas is going through to "free" him. When you narrow down the actions to just what Blitzø experiences, it's easy to see how he could have missed (most of) the clues about how Stolas feels. I could also get into a whole essay on Blitzø's horrible self esteem and belief that he's fundamentally unlovable, or about the class divisions and power imbalance between him and Stolas, and how those things have made him blind to what is obvious to others (cough Fizz cough) but that would make this comment even more ridiculously long, so I'm just going to stick with how I see things from Blitzø's POV. Okay, so you're Blitzø. You have a deal with someone far above your class level where you exchange sex for the book you need to run your business (remember, he doesn't know about the Asmodian crystal, nor has he seen any of the scenes from Stolas' POV where he thinks about his feelings. We know Stolas' intentions, but he does not.) Your friends have just put into your mind that Stolas might be getting bored, so you pull out all the stops because you need that book. Also, you're kinda looking forward to seeing the guy. You do like him, after all. After a full day of killing and shopping, you go to Stolas with all your goodies and plans to wow him and... he asks for the book back, permanently. This is exactly what you feared, and your whole life is crumbling before your eyes and you're letting everyone you love down because you didn't hold up your end of the bargain. You fucked up, again, just like you always do. So you try to fix it, hell, you're even willing to beg for a second chance, promise to do ANYTHING Stolas wants (whether or not you want to doesn't matter right now because you NEED that book.) You're panicking and scared and also sad because the guy you kinda like is basically saying, "okay, I'm done." Then, that guy turns around and gives you something precious. Also something that will make it so you never have to see him again. WTF? Where the hell is this coming from? Talk about emotional whiplash! There has to be a catch; if life has taught you anything, it's that there's always a catch. Or maybe HE doesn't want to see YOU anymore, but also doesn't want to take away you're livelihood because he's not an actual POS. Only now this guy who isn't even your fuck buddy so much as your John, professes his feelings for you. He can't actually be serious though, right? Because why would someone who's literally a duke of hell want anything to do with a demon who's pretty much the bottom of the totem pole, much less one who's as big a fuck up as you are. So it must be a joke. It HAS to be a joke. But it's not. And now he's just leaving, dismissing you instead of giving you a moment to think and process all the shit he just threw at you. So you follow because now you're overwhelmed and pissed and instead of staying and having a conversation about this like you deserve, he's walking away without even giving you a chance. It's cruel and dismissive and EXACTLY how people like Stolas treat people like Blitzø. Like their feelings don't matter. Like your feelings don't matter, like you're not worthy of having a voice or a say in your own relationships. So fuck him! Only not, because you do like him, and you just hurt him, but before you can try to talk this out and maybe fix things, he kicks you out. Again. So yeah, what. The. Fuck?! So yeah, that's my interpretation. I'm gonna shut up now. I look forward to the next episode, it's also a doozy!

For a future reaction series, Good Omens. is a good swing from this.

ChromaScarlet

Pulling a Mattables here. Apologizing for rambling on and on, when that's what we want to see. Good assessment, Please feel free to go long.

I think you mentioned in a past episode about doing the shorts all at once but I wanted to say that the helluva shorts to slightly line up with the main story line. I would just recommend watching them passed on when they came out. You’ll see why in the future but up to you 🫶

For future reaction series: I’m guessing you’re referring to Gravity Falls by how you described it? I think that’d be a really great choice!! It’s such a fun watch (I just finished rewatching it lol) and it has a lot of popularity right now because of the new book! It’ll be a lighter and more fun watch after all of this Helluva Boss drama, although it still has some pretty dark supernatural/horror elements and weird twists so it’s a pretty good balance between engaging deep mystery and fun fantasy adventures! Along the same lines, there’s a series called The Owl House which supposedly takes place in the same universe. Like Hazbin and Helluva, they’re not very clearly connected but the vibes are very similar and there are subtle nods to Gravity Falls within The Owl House. Either of those would be great to follow your Helluva reactions since there’s a lot of overlap between GF, TOH, and Hazbin/Helluva fans. :)

I think you analyzed this episode really well!! A lot of folks (myself included for a bit) were pretty firmly on team Stolas in this episode. It takes a lot of careful consideration of Blitz’s words and some hypothesizing to understand his side of things, which I think you did great with!! I don’t think there are any major things you’re overlooking (as far as I can remember too lol). A lot of Blitz’s past is just a mystery to us still! All we really know is that he’s scared of losing and hurting the ones he loves, since that’s a common theme with everyone in his past he’s cared about (Fizz, his sister, his mom, etc). You’ll find out a bit more about his past relationships in the next episode too! Although I will say there is a lot that’s still left a mystery at this point unfortunately. A lot of folks are still stumped by the comment where he says “you royals think you can do this every time.” But like you mentioned briefly, people theorize Blitz has had a past relationship with a higher ranked demon that ended very poorly/in which he was mistreated, or that possibly his sister or mother was mistreated by a royal? His viewpoint makes a lot more sense if he has witnessed someone he loves, or has himself experienced, being mistreated by royals. While it can definitely be argued that Stolas mistreated him for a bit in the beginning of their arrangement, I don’t think that would have resulted in such a deeply rooted anger towards royals. It seems to be something Blitz had already encountered long before his agreement with Stolas. But I suppose we’ll learn more in future episodes! :D

cottoncandycoz

When Blitz says "You royal fucks do this every time." He's referring to the fact that during his confusion when he needed a minute. Stolas instantly shut the conversation down and started to leave. "Dismiss me like one of your little butler imps." It's insulting to be dismissed without being allowed to speak for yourself. If you watch, after Blitz does the pretend flirting, Stolas instantly says he understands how Blitz sees things. And if you watch Blitz' face shows confusion the whole time as he follows Stolas. And it just spirals from there.

Kayleigh McRae

The business started after the book. My guess is that Blitz and Moxxie had the idea and had been trying to find a way for them to go to the surface. And so all doors were closed and then Blitz remembers a little bird who told him he had access to the living world. And he thought to himself, "I've already stolen from him. Stealing one more thing won't hurt things." Also no Loona can't teleport to earth, she always uses the book. Stolas' book.

Kayleigh McRae

For Blitz the deal means safety. It makes things simple. He doesn't think real love is a thing he deserves. He decided from the start that Stolas was only using him. If that breaks then he needs to accept his feelings for Stolas. Because if he expresses his love something bad may happen. The same thing happened with the fire. His mental barriers are so high because he wants to protect everyone he cares about by blowing things up before he can hurt them.

Kayleigh McRae

I agree that this is a show that you get so many more details on the second (and third and forth) watch. One of the big ones I believe you missed that’s relevent was in Oops. When you get Blitz’s perspective of what happened on Fizz’s birthday, he’s holding an envelope and a flower. The envelope says “For Fizz’s eyes only” and is sealed with a heart. Pretty sure it was a letter saying he loved Fizz. I think what happened that night really scarred him emotionally as well as physically and after almost killing his best friend and love, he’s both scared to fall in love again and believes that he’s unlovable.

Mae Whitaker

This is a hard episode, you did great! Everyone has their own take on this conflict. I'm firmly in the 'they both need therapy' camp, lol. A few things I think Stolas stumbled on in this one-he came to the night with the idea that Blitz would give him a straight answer, either he loves me and wants to stay with me, or we can be over. I'll save us both from this situation. He's been ruminating on this for several months. Blitz...hasn't been, lol. To Blitz, this really came out of nowhere-he never saw the music video! Stolas shutting down and walking away (which due to the size distance means Blitz is literally running to keep up) just when Blitz realizes what they're talking about is probably pretty frustrating. Also, Blitz has needed to be more open about his frustrations with the class differences between them for a long time, and that is what bubbles up here. I don't think Blitz handles it well by yelling, but that's how he communicates. Honestly, I think him yelling 'let's go!' was his way of saying, let's have this argument and hash it out. It's completely understandable Stolas isn't willing to engage in this, though shutting it down completely by sending him out of the castle entirely wasn't a great way of communicating, either. So...they both need therapy. Thanks for letting me ramble about this!

SurrealSidhe

sorry xD that was so long, but i really love this kinda conversations, I could go all day.

ChromaScarlet

I could easily have conversations about this ending, because I can see it from both perspectives. First off *hug* welcome to the heartbreak episode. So when it comes from Blitz, his worth/value in himself has been engrained in him from his dad. From childhood he was always made to feel worthless, sold for $5 and a slim fit condom. He was bought to be Stolas' playmate. Then later on the stuff happened with the fire and the circus. He lost everything that day, and not only does he feel worthless but he truly hates himself, which is why he scribbles himself out of any photo he is in, and why he can't justify how Stolas could like him. And at the beginning, this was a bargin for him and Stolas to be a deal, sex for book. Stolas often speaks to him in demeaning ways, including calling him names he does not like, or how he just talks to him, is very graphic. There is no idea of their being true feelings between them yet. Then Ozzies happens. First off Blitz did use Stolas at first yes..but at some point, Blitz starts taking it a bit more serious. But when Ozzie calls out Stolas in the Club, Stolas appears to be embarrassed by being caught with Blitz so publicly. And it hurts Blitz enough that he pulls away. This is the first real time we see that Stolas has any kind of feelings. It then begins to build more for Stolas, but he does not talk to Blitz about it, and even during the talk with Fizzy in the cage in Oops, Blitz is still seeing this being something impossible. So come to this episode. Stolas acknowledges that Blitz has insecurities in Look My Way, but then its like he forgets that when he starts their talk. He really started off wrong. He started by making Blitz feel like he was being punished. And it brought out that he was not good enough. Then instead of getting a chance to process everything, Stolas proceeded without really letting Blitz feel heard, or acknowledging making him feel dismissed otherwise. So by the time Stolas hears Blitz's response, he has already accepted in his mind that Blitz has rejected him. And did not give him a chance to process it all. Also, mentioned in the last episode's comments. Stolas only knows about love and romance through telenovelas, and romcoms, so he only knows how to do grand gestures with drama and extra shiny excitement. So this is my best thoughts and I am sure I have more.

ChromaScarlet

There’s this Youtuber named Georgia Dow, she’s a therapist, and she analyzes a lot of the Helluva characters! She’s gives a lot of insight on so many of the characters behaviors, especially Stolas and Blitzo!
