The thing where they had a still image of Toji's hand on top of his face wasn't a technique to make it look like he was moving faster, it's just ghosting. Ghosting is the process of dimming and overlapping frames to comply with more strict regulations for TV broadcasts in Japan.

Geto does say that Toji's heavenly pact works like how sorcerers usually operates and we see that with someone like Nabito in S2 very explicitely, when he goes to great lengths in explaining his cursed technique for this purpose.

Also, since you talked a little about it, I wanted to give you some more info about that animation technique you talked about. So that's typically called ghosting and it's actually not exactly a choice made by the animators. It is applied to the episodes post production by the Japanese broadcasting companies. For high action scenes, it is applied in order to protect those who are sensitive to flashing lights. Whether it helps or not is debatable, but it is still required by law in Japan. It wasn't a problem in season 1 since jjk had a later run time, but season 2 is run at a prime time spot so it suffers from it. Hope that helps!

2023-12-19 14:53:12 +0000 UTCIdk why internettiquette seems to dictate that commenting on things that are older than a couple of weeks is weird, but idc I wanted to tell you that I am seriously loving watching your reactions to JJK S2. I had the same reaction to S1, I did not get the hype and I dragged my ass through the season only to feel some extremely late payoff with Nobara finally showcasing her technique in a way I thought was pretty hype, but was saved til the last two episodes. I have been THRILLED with the change in directors for the second season - I LOVE the artsiness and the music choice and the animation, and it really clarifies why S1 felt like the most basic shonen anime ever - it was utterly bland and uninspired compared to how S2 is turning out. And you helped name why I couldn't get behind Yuji either - Tanjiro is my favorite shonen protagonist and it's largely due to his compassionate nature, so I wanted to appreciate Yuji's "smile" as people put it, but his Mary Sue-ness makes him a pretty bland character. That being said, I really get a kick out of when you say things about shows or characters that I agree with (I'll find myself actually nodding and saying "Yup!" out loud) or you put words to a feeling I had that I wasn't able to explain myself, such as why I found Yuji a boring protag. Megumi's dad was a great antagonist; unhinged Gojo was so fun to watch; I've always thought it was ridiculously stupid for anime characters to so often claim that their vital organs were untouched by a brutal attack; it's really weird for a middle school girl to be introduced to the audience in the bathtub, etc., really makes me feel like I'm watching a show with a friend. I think that's why I enjoy your reaction content so much, because I have never enjoyed watching other people react to things before my friend showed me your first Link Click reaction video. I want to thank you for giving S2 a chance given how "blah" S1 was - the only reason I gave S2 a chance myself was because I was also pleasantly surprised with how much better the movie JJK0 was compared to S1, the jump in quality was pretty unexpected and very welcome. That being said, I really hope to see you continue this reaction series!
