Thank you! (and a few quick Patreon-specific updates)
Added 2022-12-23 23:08:31 +0000 UTCThank you all for suppporting me and Strange Parts! I'm so so grateful for the support and love, and I'm really looking forward for everything to come in the new year.
A couple quick updates on Patreon itself:
- I've gotten at least one request asking if there's a way to get both a shirt and a hoodie. So I added another tier that includes both: Changzhu (厂主) - Factory Owner (and everything else of course). If you'd like both a shirt and a hoodie, feel free to upgrade to that tier. The shirts and hoodies will ship out after you're subscribed for 3 months to that tier (this is a rule Patreon has for the merch they fulfill).
- If you're already in the Strange Parts discord, or you'd like to be, but you either haven't been added to the server, or don't have the right role corresponding to your Patreon tier, try disconnecting and reconnecting your discord account with Patreon. I had a slight misconfiguration error this morning, which I think affects at least a few of you.
Thank you again for your support - I'm so excited for what's to come!
-Scotty

2023-01-07 21:46:44 +0000 UTCHmm, I guess powered rails etc could be useful, but I guess you can do it in more like a train like system, with sensors when stuff pass a certain points, and just program it like "go to two seconds past this stop". It doesn't really have to be super precise to make cool snippets. Maybe avoid powered rails too. Maybe dedicated charging station where stuff can move to when batteries run low? Wireless control, and occasional barcodes along the rail is good enough for positioning? Seems to be pretty precise when used in digital calipers too, so that could be one way at least. If you keep most of it track, you can have some more advanced "stations" for charging etc, in more accessible locations. Just suggestions, keep what you like :)

2022-12-26 20:21:43 +0000 UTCI like the rail system idea! I have a fixed grid of pipes right now, similar to a lighting grid in film studios and theaters, which I can clamp lights and cameras too. It's proved very useful thus far, but I don't have anything that can move right now. The creator scanlime was working on a cool cable cam for her workshop for for a while - not sure if she ever got it working, but it's along the lines of what you're describing. I'll have to think a bit more about what sort of automated movement would be helpful to me...

2022-12-26 20:21:24 +0000 UTCI haven't figure out the best place for video suggestions yet. Here is just fine for now. If people want, they can DM ideas to me on Patreon too. I'm aware of the Flipper Zero, but have yet to play with one. I should reach out and maybe see if they'll send me one. Thanks for the suggestion!

2022-12-26 20:17:33 +0000 UTCWe met briefly at Def Con 30 and I had no idea you had been going through this. I have never heard a perspective on a brain injury as honest and thorough as your last video. Glad you are doing well and looking forward to your progression from here. -Andrew @ Helicopters of DC

2022-12-26 00:43:17 +0000 UTCHello! So good to hear that you are feeling better! :) I don't know where to put ideas, so i will put one here: A small rail system near the ceiling in your workshop to have automated cameras, light etc, which can move around to designated spots. It can start small and be extended to other parts of the workshop if needed, and might be used as a general purpose transport system later if you want. Maybe cameras on robotic arms? All of this could make for good timelapses for longer builds too. Watching different maker channels on youtube, I have wondered why there are so few videos of where the makers themselves make something for their own workshop to make their next builds easier. Stuff like roof mounted lifting systems with winches or cranes etc. I think it could be a nice idea to make videos about you improving your workshop, to make your life easier, with less heavy lifing, less climbing of ladders to mount and then later move stuff etc. PS: I was also slightly inspired by Wheatley from the Portal 2 game series.

2022-12-25 22:48:34 +0000 UTCIs there an area either here or on the discord to make video suggestions? I think going over the Flipper Zero as a tool but nore interestingly the hurdles they went through in the manufacturing process, especially during covid's early days would make for a great video that is very much aligned with some of your type of videos. I included their blog in case you hadn't heard of them! https://blog.flipperzero.one/

2022-12-24 06:32:50 +0000 UTCI'll be honest: I'm not sure. But I'd like to see what we can do to figure it out. Patreon handles making and shipping the hoodies, so send an email to merch@patreon.com and ask them if it's possible. If they say no, send me a message on here, and I'll see what I can figure out.

2022-12-24 03:45:25 +0000 UTCI know it's probably a no but I'm going to ask anyway. Is there any way to get a bigger hoodie. I'm 300+ lbs and a 2x just doesn't cut it unfortunately. If not I understand and will find someone to give the 2x to.

2022-12-23 23:49:01 +0000 UTCYou should have the option to link your Discord account with Patreon, which will invite you to the server, and give you the right role. But if for whatever reason you don't want to do that though, you can join here: https://discord.gg/strangeparts

2022-12-23 23:21:22 +0000 UTCYou should post and invite link to the discord.
