Ya I totally get it was necessary! Just makes it hard to love Tommy's character as much as I would have otherwise because... DUDE YOU COULDN'T SEND EVEN ONE MESSAGE??? lol. Like Tess died because of him! But ya in terms of the story I totally get it!

Whilst I totally understand the "right" thing to do would be for Tommy to at least send a final message to Joel indicating that he was fine (without violating the communes principals and puttin them in danger) it simply isn't possible to write it that way... let me explain... The search for Tommy is the lynchpin for the first 6 episodes allowing us to get Joel and Ellie together and to the spot that we find ourselves in right now. If Joel knows Tommy is fine then Tess and he never leave Boston QZ. Joel needss to find Tommy > He needs a battery > Robert rips them off > they find Robert and therefore get Ellie > Tess dies and makes him promise to take her to Bill and Frank's place > Bill and Frank are dead but Joel hasn't fulfilled the spirit of Tess' dying wish and he still needs to find Tommy so off he goes > Ellie asks him in the car why he is so certain he will find Tommy. He says "because I am persistent". We have to get to the end of Episode 6 with Joel getting injured if they are going to be able to show the content of Episode 7 somewhere (it isn't part of the main story of TLOU... it is the DLC content... but this area in the story where Joel is injured makes a perfect spot to put it) and it gives a far better tie in to the storyline picked up in Episode 8 than the game has... Sometimes to make a plot work you have to do annoying things that aren't what people want to see... but that is part of the difficulty in crafting them.

The woman who plays Maria also plays Tara in True Blood, lol and I honestly think Ellie reminds me of how Tara acted in TB.

The editing in the beginning scene with Florence & Marlon is masterful, and more obvious on subsequent watches. Florence: “we never see people, but we see the dead they leave behind.” Immediately cut to Joel’s terrified expression. They didn’t cut to Ellie, or Marlon. And just in case you missed it, they doubled down. Ellie: “You’re not gonna scare us.” Florence: “I scared him.” Again, stressing that fact and cut to Joel.
