2021-04-23 12:05:04 +0000 UTCThe only thing I didn't really love about this episode is the way Aang endorsed the temple being radically altered. His whole culture was exterminated. It's complicated, but I think it's important to preserve that heritage wherever possible, and to pass that message along to viewers. I think Aang being mad about it initially does some of that work, but it feels unresolved. I wish they'd had a line from the dad about how they'd try harder to respect the more historically significant parts of the temple. Build the bathhouse around the statues. The airbenders are gone so it's not like their temples need to be kept in pristine unoccupied condition, but watching that wrecking ball destroy that old statue hurts me physically every time.
