I like that they allow these characters to make big mistakes, and get really angry at each other. Kind of like Buffy.
I don't know if I've mentioned this before here, but I actually think Avatar is the TV series that is closest to Buffy. The 2 series are a similar blend of drama, comedy, action, and fantasy. Discussing other similarities could get spoilery.

Seriously great reaction! I'm glad you're enjoying it as much as you are, I greatly look forward to these every week.
I think it's easy to be really hard on Aang in this episode because his actions were very selfishly motivated, and a lot of first-time viewers are quick to just feel anger about it or even think it's out of character. So I appreciate that you understood where Aang was coming from, and the severity of the trauma he's dealing with combined with the overwhelmingly important task he's been assigned. Surviving a genocide is something most of us have not experienced, and I don't think it's just Aang's age/maturity level that made him lash out. It doesn't make what he did acceptable, but to me it's entirely understandable. Even though the situation was a little contrived.
Idk if it was just a product of 2005 or if they were trying something with him, but that whole creepy old man thing from Iroh IS pretty dang out of character.

Not gonna lie, as much as I love Iroh he has some really awful moments in this episode. Being kind of a creep towards June and even making intimate contact with her while she's unconscious...no thanks, I could have done without that. And even stealing the bottle of perfume feels a little out of character, I feel like he would have paid the workers a little something for it. Definitely his worst episode for me.
Conversely, a GREAT Sokka episode! Right from the very first scene he's 10/10. And some good action for Appa, too, what a beast!

I really liked what Iroh said about only one big mistery being left at his age. He really seems at peace with himself and only troubled when something happens to his nephew or his tea.
