Goodbye to the Hellmouth

If you've seen my announcement video on YouTube about Buffy Finale Week, you'll know I mentioned I'd been working on an extra project where I kept a sort of journal documenting my process working on the channel as I finished Buffy.

Here it is! I hope you get something out of it, no matter how small. If not, sorry for wasting your time. You guys are getting access to it first, then YouTube Channel Members will get access to an audiobook version and then I'll make it viewable to the wider public audience. Enjoy!

If you are taking requests. I recommend Liam The Hercules series, is before Xena, & it goes with along with it's sister series. You can miss story, & plot points, necassary to progress on thru Xena, plus both series are really good, for their time. It would truly suck without the other. Just saying. 👩🏻👱🏻‍♀️💗🌎💗🤘🏻

What's next, and are you taking recommendations for new series, also loved the buffy reactions.

Silvern7552

Liam, I joined for Buffy but also enjoyed your Firefly, House on Haunted Hill (hoping for more), and Angel in progress. Your videos have been delightful. You give legit reactions and insightful commentary. I usually stop being a Patreon when Buffy wraps, but your work was so enjoyable that I hope to be able to go back at some point and rewatch your full reactions. I usually watch you on YouTube because I have trouble getting Dropbox to work but 🤞🏻Someday.

I'm TRYING to wait for the audio version, but I already peeked and might crumble and read it before then!

This was a really interesting read, so I'm glad you decided to share it. Your schedule, as someone has already said, gives me anxiety just looking at it. I knew a show roster as large as yours would be hellish, but seeing dates and numbers plotting it out really brings that home. Thank you once again for being so genuine and thoughtful in your reactions and afterthoughts, something I don't think can be appreciated enough! Looking forward to seeing all that comes next for you.

Audra Foxgrove

Didn't read this all yet as I have things to do first - but I saw the bit about the fear of finishing Buffy, which I totally get. I for one will be sticking around on Patreon even if you never do another show I want to watch (which seems unlikely anyway). Thankfully, I have a job, so the monthly cost is entirely affordable, and you deserve it ongoing for your amazing Buffy reactions, even if they have now finished. :)

Dentarthurdent

I would love to see Liam react to one of his own reactions from earlier in the series!

Superplin

Oh my god how have I never seen this before I am dyiiiing. Thanks so much for linking it!

Thanks, Liam. (Repost as original dissappeared) Buffy Theme Suggestion: You had a lot of off the cuff comments predicting things to happen in Buffy, sometimes years in advance. Maybe revisit your own reactions and comments (as a watch along?) - and pull things you got really right and some you got really wrong. Knowing what was to happen, there were a lot of moments when you would say something that was funny, ironic, clever - and I was like, "Oh, wait until he revisits this comment after knowing what happened." Just an idea for ya, in case you needed more. Take Care.

Just sharing a video that perfectly sums up the Buffy episodes and can hopefully help brighten your mood on dark days. I appreciate you, and I'm grateful for the experiences you've shared and for the experiences to come! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zO7j1IVJ80A

Just realized the validation bit might be unclear. I was just trying to poke fun at us the fans, who like to have reactors appreciate the shows we love.

You have a very good writing voice. It flowed so smoothly it read almost as fiction at times. This really gave me a better sense of your experience and what goes into having a reaction channel. Thanks for sharing with us all. While reading I started to imagine a parallel diary being kept by your cat (with a very humanoid voice): “Liam’s been exporting all day. Seems frustrated. Hope he forgets its bath day. That would be nice.” “Realizing your owner records themselves watching other people do imaginary things, so other people can watch him watching that makes one look at humans anew. Such a weird species. You wouldn’t catch a cat doing that stuff. We cats are pleased with ourselves, we don’t need others validation. Just a nice string ball or something to claw at occasionally. That’s the good life. “ “Liam wrote I’m not a very good conversationalist yesterday. Is it my fault he doesn’t understand Cat? Even if I can’t speak English at least I bothered to learn to understand it. Hope he doesn’t find out I read his diary. Or can read. You don’t want your owners getting any ideas or the next thing you know, they want you to perform. It happened to an old friend, Chester. Nothing good lies that way.” “I was startled today, almost loosing balance when Liam squealed unlike I’ve heard before. Apparently it had something to with a Fred and Willow whatever those are. I hope they never show up again, because I don’t think I can get used to that sound.” “Liam said he was worried about people leaving when he’s done watching Buffy. I’m not sure where these people are to begin with, I never seen anyone else in the house of late. It’s been eerily empty this past year. Maybe Liam is becoming more cat like or just hallucinating. Lots to ponder for sure.” I think I could go on forever but dinner calls. Hope your channel continues to do great. I actually found you through your walking dead reactions, but then you started to react to to my fav show of all time, Buffy and it's been an awesome ride as a viewer!

Don’t know what to say that others haven’t already said. So I will just say thank you for all the hard work that you do. You’re truly entertaining and insightful. Keep on doing what you do. You’re amazing!

This was a super enjoyable read! Really interesting to get an insight into your process, and it's absolutely crazy how much work goes into your reactions. As someone who runs a radio show and a podcast (not quite the same, but a similar kettle of fish), I know only too well how much of a frustrating road block tech issues can be. It honestly feels like your ability to produce content exists on a knife's edge sometimes, and not a lot of people seem to understand that. I'll echo what other people have said - if and when you feel able to, try and take a break! I also very much relate to taking on a bit too much work, and just looking at your schedule gave me anxiety. But, to each their own, I'm sure you know what's best for you. Either way, thank you so much for this privileged behind-the-scenes glimpse! I'm going to be sticking around on here until the end of Angel at least. One last thing - great to see you reacting to The Great Tragedy of the Buffy HD Remaster. Passion of the Nerd is a wonderful, wonderful channel, and I think you could easily get a few more reactions out of it. I for one would love to see you react to his analysis of Lie to Me, Amends and Restless, as I'm sure they will give you a new depth of appreciation for the show. Either way, reactions or no, You should def work your way through his Buffy guide. It's a deeply entertaining and insightful way to revisit the show. Other than that, I guess I'll just say thank you so much for all the work you put into your Buffy reactions. I've alluded to this previously, but some of your videos (in particular, The Body) got me through some very rough patches in my life, and I've truly valued sharing this journey with you. Keep on keeping on, and absolutely fuck the haters. They ain't worth your time.

I loved reading that, and have so much 💓💓💓 for you Liam Duke. You set the bar impossibly high 🤗🤗👏👏👏👏

SpikesEcho

Thank you so much for sharing this Liam. It was a fantastic idea and I love being able to see a bit behind the scenes. I know things got a bit rocky at times but I'll never forget the amazing memories these years have given me. And I look forward to many more. Love you Liam! Although I may be quiet most of the time I'm always here ❤

Jenn Rose

Just finished reading the entire thing. It's really interesting to see your thought process! But please, please take some mental health days when you need it, and absolutely screw anyone who has a problem with that, or moans and groans in the comments. Also, reading this has given me a lot better insight into the issues with Patreon pilots, and why it takes so long. I really do commend you for taking on so much work! I can't even imagine the pressure of that list, and the limited time and space on your computer. Having to delete the Sims 4 sounds like an absolute tragedy, I love that game. Meanwhile, as always I love your puns, they gave me a good laugh while reading. To conclude, once again I have absolutely loved going on this Buffy journey with you, and I look forward to watching many more of your reactions here on Patreon, as I'm not going anywhere. :D

Chaotic Cam

I found that a very good and interesting read, even when I found myself in disagreement of sorts, which I think only happened once. And I think it’s irksome that you’ve encountered the behavior you have, but I really appreciate how positive your own ride has been. The big part of this trip is indeed over, but that doesn’t mean the last leg can’t be one heck of a finish.

Koz

Read about 2/3 of it, and I’ll be finishing it when I have the time (English is not my first language, so it takes a little longer for me), but I just wanted to thank you for sharing this. It’s an excellent and quite entertaining insight into how this whole thing works for you. And I just want to reiterate my support; you should be proud of what you accomplished here so far, and of all the people you made happy with your reactions and your hard work

Khanach

Just ... thank you so much for this. I'm not sure the average person is aware how much work goes into doing reactions, especially if you're doing it on your own. I think you've done an amazing job with Buffy, and everything else on your channel. You should know that you're one of the best at this, and I hope you get to continue doing it for as long as you want. To everyone wondering if they should read this - Yes, do it. Right now. Cheers!

Zoot!

I've been a fan of yours ever since you reacted to "welcome to the Hellmouth"

John Sturchio

You're easily my favorite reactor ever, I plan to stick around long after the Buffyverse is over

John Sturchio

I'm glad you decided to do this, too! Seconding everything Raq said above, as well. I feel like I'd just be repeating everything, so I'll just say 'thanks'. Thanks for the reactions and all the hard work you've put in. Thanks for sharing part of your behind-the-scenes thoughts and experiences, even -perhaps especially- the stuff that isn't all hugs and puppies.

Erica Schaefer

Thank you for this. That last entry made me teary.

Tim

Thanks for sharing this, Liam. I appreciate your effort, thoughtfulness, and care for your work immensely, and it's really brave to be able to give so much of yourself and be this vulnerable. Can't wait to see you tackle some more TV gems soon.

Briony Addey

This was really interesting, and also made me want to give you a hug (in a not creepy way! Lol). I deal with a lot of anxiety & depression & self-loathing myself, and there's no way I could do what you do, on so many levels. So seeing you struggle makes me sad because I think you're awesome, but the fact that you keep pushing on moves me. Some of us, at least, really appreciate you and never stopped supporting you, and I'm sorry I'm not better at being vocal about it. I hope some people will read this journal and get a better idea what you and reactors in general have to go through just to entertain us. 💜
