Let’s see if this works after yesterday’s drama...

Dollhouse - 2x12 “The Hollow Men” FULL REACTION

Comments

I think Boyd’s motivation/rational behind everything was that the invention of the tech was inevitable, likely in his lifetime. There is a lot of suspension of belief in terms of a lot this episode. I’d like to believe with enough time they would have earned most if not all of the questionable developments and twists of the episode. And considering how rushed they were, I think they did an outstanding job. Really enjoyed these reactions, and really looking forward to the finale :)

I think Dollhouse was destined for tv. Had they been canceled during this era of tv it would have been renewed on another tv platform and finished the way it was intended. I think that’s the real tragedy :(

You could argue the writers had two choices in light of cancellation; build up to a season finale (probably centred around Senator Perrin and maybe Adelle's rise and fall in the Dollhouse) and then leave the narrative unfinished; or, build up to a series finale that, presumably, would have taken 5-6 full seasons, let's say 100 episodes, if everything had gone well. They chose the latter, and it shows. Neither option is great, but they opted to try to reach a narrative conclusion to the whole thing, even if that meant that everything was rushed, and that every moment was doing double duty, and every episode is unbreathingly jampacked. I mean there is one episode left, so thing's aren't over, but still. There's a lot to like and love about this episode, and this season. But there's also a lot that is questionable and slightly off or confusing or rushed or unearned. Even small, nitpicky things, like how few scientists there are operating on Echo, how few security guards there are in the building. That stuff shouldn't matter, but it chips away at the suspension of disbelief, and it's only a factor because the show didn't have the time or money to do it "properly", so to speak. Much like the events of the episode, it's all kinda tragic. I feel like Dollhouse wasn't destined for television. I think it would make a great series of novels though.

I know it hurts and I think you are trying to explain it away as "a twist for twists sake" knowing that Boyd was evil and rewatching the series it seems less and less out of left field. I understand if it felt rushed but if they had hinted at it more in the episodes leading up to it it wouldn't have felt like that gut punch that it was supposed to. It's important for you to understand that one of their closest friends betrayed them, manipulated them and then died all for nothing. I think that contributes a lot to how Topher is in the future. PS Victor as Topher is fantastic as always.

Great reaction! I always love seeing Enver Gjokaj portray Topher, he's just so good! He even mimics his voice. Mellie's death meanwhile was so sad and tragic. I agree I always loved their relationship and would have loved to see them end up together personally. The ending scene with Boyd in the glass room in Doll State hits me in the feels, especially when he gives such an innocent smile before blowing himself up. Despite all the frustration, I don't feel like there would have been any emotional payoff there or in a lot of places if it wasn't someone we had known.

Hey Liam. I decided to go back over the last couple of weeks and click on a few reactions. all seemed okay on my end so it looks like reuploading all your links won't be needed.
