Angel - 3x22 “Tomorrow” FULL REACTION

Comments

It was cool to see you excited about Cangel. I know everybody has their preferences and likes or dislikes of how some relationships happen but personally I am a Cangel and a Spuffy shipper.

TheMew

I really hope Liam does a season review for Angel.

Rae

“Well done Justine, you’ve got a boat, aren’t you cool” 😂😂😂

Mary Kate

whoa... woke up this morning to see AtS- Tomorrow and BtVS- Seeing Red- *BAM* *POW*! That is quite the 1-2 punch- Hope you are well

Mark Judge

Couples don't have to have problems all the time, but ALL relationships do end, even the happiest ones. And I'm talking about real life here. In Whedon TV terms, that means couples get to have plenty of happy moments, but not forever. Which I especially don't mind when we're dealing with young people who's barely had any relationships at all. At least in Whedon shows, characters generally do get together. So we don't get the endless will they/won't they's of some shows. Also, I like the pain. All the pain. The more hurt, the better I feel when a good thing happens. Because after all, as we all should know, pain is so close to pleasure.

I'm with you on the relationships thing. It especially sucks that when a relationship obstacle is presented badly, it sorta shows the seams of the whole inevitable cycle and it's hard to have hope in general. But that is also sort of the way of the world in a sense. It's fast-tracked in TV shows, but most relationships end, most end badly, and at times it seems pointless to try to build anything because of the high chance that it'll come crashing down. But of course, there is still a lot of value in temporary relationships. I'm mainly sick of the tired writing techniques and how telegraphed this episode was, but I never get even a little tired of watching a well-executed relationship like Willow and Oz, even though I know it's going to end. Not preaching to you or anything, you just got me thinking about it.

I don’t even know what to expect from Liam with Buffy S6’s final 3 reaction anymore because it could go either way... LOL

Stephen Mintac

@13:21 I know how intense their conversation is but I can't help but focus on what Lilah's trying to build. Wait, are those salt/pepper packets?! 😅 And I just love Cordy and Angel's moments together. Gosh, it must be killing Gru every time he sees them together doing... whatever. lol But I do feel bad for him in the end. If you're not the one, then you're not getting the girl. Or something like that. And Fred as a "vampire" *ahem* cat is too... grr arrgh-dorable. lol ADORKable Burkle. 😆 Oh and I just hate the part where the demon Skip tells Cordy that she needs to get to the next level, the Higher Being crap arc. 😑 Just totally ruined the Cangel ship... which would've sailed if it wasn't for Connor putting Angel in a coffin, sending him to the bottom of the ocean. So what could be worse than not killing a vampire is keeping him locked up forever?? *sigh* Yeah this season finale was a crazy one. Probably my least favorite.

Shierra C Styver

Yes, on all counts! I've never been a Cangel fan (yeah, I hate the "let's get them together to break them up thing" in general, but with Cangel, I also just disliked (a) the presentation and (b) the concept that their platonic, almost familial relationship was just not good enough or important enough, no it had to be romantic or it didn't count).

FernWithy

Woohoo, Wesley and Lilah! I'm still ride-or-die for Wesley/Fred, but I *LOVE* the hate-sex dynamic between Wes and Lilah. "I wasn't thinking about you when you were here." DAMN. (*fans self*) I'm not a fan of Angel/Cordelia at all, but I feel the same way about shows keeping couples apart and breaking them up, and I agree so hard that once it happens so many times you just can't get invested in couples because you know they're going to be taken from you. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me eighty-seven times ... I can't say a lot about Cordelia's ascension because spoilers (though I could say A LOT), but I kind of can't stand how they've saint-ified her in the second half of the season. It's like whatever her magic glowy healing power she was given has stripped her of a lot of her personality and what made me love her in the first place. I miss Queen C.

Pam Nail

It tells you something about Joss Whedon's style when Dark Wesley banging Lilah is the most uplifting part of an episode.

Steve Quast

Poor Liam. I actually felt bad for you seeing you get so excited then sad cuz you realized it wasn't gonna happen with Angel and Cordy. The problem is Angel cant be happy as you saw Fred freak out for a minute when she comment that he was so happy. Great reaction as always looking forward to Buffy last episodes of the season.

Pho3nixX

*sigh* This show certainly has a lot of ups and downs.

Steve Quast

Chandler and Monica are my favorite TV couple ever for exactly the reasons you describe. I think the idea couples have to have some conflict between themselves (as opposed to the two of them together dealing with some external conflict) can sometimes make for interesting television, but if that's they only story a writer can tell with couple after couple, that's just lazy writing.

peggin

As somebody who loves Buffy Season 6 and hates Angel Season 3, these four-episode Angel runs have been rough. Can't wait for the Buffy season closeout reactions!

I'd feel pretty comfortable with skipping to 4x22 now....lol

SpikesEcho

Can't tell if serious...

Chess Red Eagle

The best thing about this episode is that we now get to return to Buffy!

Completely agree with you and Liam. Friday Night Lights has two of my fav "happy" couples on TV, it definitely can be done. I think it’s harder to write a really complex and happy couple so when it happens I’m usually impressed.

Shashank

Yeah I get that, it's just overdone at this point for me I guess. I'm just not interested in that particular drama anymore

I agree with you in particular, Liam, on the subject of couples not needing to have problems all the time. “The essence of drama is conflict.” Well, okay, maybe it is, but the essence of good TV is likable characters. And sometimes when two such characters are paired with each other, the whole can be greater than the sum of its parts. And thus it is sometimes better to leave the happy couple a happy couple.

Koz

The good news is Season 4 is coming and boy.... it’s my favorite Angel Season ❤️

Stephen Mintac

I get what you mean about writers thinking couples have to be sad or apart to be interesting, but, in the context of Angel, of all shows, it is valid. I mean, the background of all Angel's actions is controlled by his inability to be happy. This is kind of a problem for the writers, cause they backed themselves into a corner, limited what they could do with their title character. But it is also a constant source of tension. Fred even made light of it in this episode, making sure he wasn't 'perfectly' happy. If things are going well for Angel, badness will follow. Just ask Buffy. It's also worth looking at Gunn and Fred as an example of what can happen when characters are in a happy relationship - they kind of just blend into the background. There's been a lot of plot and world building in this back half of the season, but even still, those two have had very little to do and have had very little impact on said plot. That doesn't have to be what happens with happy couples, but it's definitely a risk. It's like the individual character's story is subsumed into the couple's story. Again, not always, but it does happen and, IMO, it happened with Fred and Gunn.

Of course he banged Lila! Look at her!!

Thom Purdy

I like how this finale frustrated you. I guess the most exciting thing for me next season is for you to see what holds for Connor or Wesley or team Angel... well what's left of them according to the finale lol

Juan Sanchez

Same. Season 3 starts out super strong but after Connor is kidnapped, the season loses steam fast... rewatching it is a chore, but the things I do for Liam's reactions.... :D

4Tom4lepus4

Personally think this is my least fave final of ANY Buffyverse final. I was never a fan of the arc in the final third of S3.
