Leave it our Queen Lilah to peg it immediately: "Who's the Boy Wonder?"
I wonder how much turmoil Wesley was in after this. Connor is back and fighting alongside Angel, and no one informed him. I imagine it would both soothe some of Wesley's guilt, but also increase his bitterness and resentment.

Great analysis. I saw that too with the way he wrote the letter to him (and also have Angel read it through beforehand) to give him the idea that he was his real father and not Angel so that by the time he staged his death, Connor would hate him for all eternity. btw, D'hoffryn would probably prefer a female over a male for a vengeance demon, right? 'Cause I don't remember there being a male one... I could be wrong.

Such a great episode for sure. Holtz got his perfect revenge in the end. He wanted Connor to have an eternal hatred for his own father.

For the first time ever I thought about the similarities that Connor and Angel have to Batman and Robin. That was about 30 seconds before you mentioned it. It seems glaringly obvious now that I've thought of it.
If I had been on the writing staff, I think I would have been constantly pitching Batman and Robin jokes and gags.

Fair enough, I personally consider Season 4 to be the nadir of Angel, but opinions and all that!

I think the point of Holtz realizing that love was more powerful was meant for Connor. Holtz was a stand-in father for him & might have grown to care for him, but I think he was too damaged to feel love of his own. Holtz observed that merely hatred for Angelus wouldn't convey what he wanted to convey to Connor. In the end the love that Connor had for Holtz is the ultimate vengeance; it can now self sustain itself. I gotta give props to Holtz as a big bad. His follow through & development are well done. I'm surprised he was never visited by D'hofffyn. 🤔😅

I am glad you are enjoying the Connor plot line, I find it boring and soapy. And the season finale, which I assume you already watched, is my least favorite episode of the entire Buffyverse.

I only really thought about it like this recently, but Holtz isn't just getting vengeance for Angelus killing his family, he's getting vengeance for the specific atrocity of Angelus and Darla turning his daughter into a vampire. He stole Angel's infant son the way Angelus stole his infant son's life, and he's transfigured Angel's son into something unrecognizable the way Angelus transfigured his daughter. Gotta give him props for his planning and follow-through.
